Chapter Seven: Reunion
Marissa’s POV
Let’s count off all the thing’s I have learned today,
1. World War II ended in 1945.
2. My mom is a badass and knows how to shred monsters apart.
3. My parents saved the world twice.
4. Uncle Leo and 4 other people helped them save the world.
5. My parents are demigods, which makes me the grandchildren of gods.
6. There is a magical camp that trains demigods
7. I am cursed by Mother Earth
I don’t think anything else could surprise me. After my parents told me about the curse, they explained further to me about the Gods and monsters and the mist that prevents mortals from seeing the monsters. My parents kept this a secret because they wanted to protect me. No matter how much I wanted to be mad at them I couldn’t be, they were just trying to lengthen my life span. We had dinner shortly after the big reveal in a large pavillion with 21 tables. There were kids at all the tables except for about three of them. My parents went to the table at the head of the room where Piper, Jason, Leo, Chiron, some people I didn’t recognize, and some half goat half humans called satyrs were sitting. My parents introduced me to Frank, a big, buff, chinese man that looked intimidating but was really just a big teddy bear. They also introduced me to Frank’s wife, Hazel, a very pretty woman with puffy brown hair and cocoa colored skin. I sat between Leo and my mom who showed me how to use the magic plates and goblets. I “ordered” a hamburger with onion rings and a Coke and my magical plate delivered. Chiron made an announcement before we ate welcoming The Seven and me. Then everyone got up and walked over to the fire and threw in a piece of their dinner. I leaned in and threw a few onion rings in. The smell that wafted up from the fire was surprisingly good! I walked back to my seat and asked my dad, “Why do we burn the food?”
“Its a sacrifice to the gods. They like the smell.” He answered. After dinner everyone got up to go to the campfire where the Apollo kids lead everyone in song. It was really fun and the smokey smell of fire and pine trees made me feel right at home. I wander around now meeting new demigods and hearing gossip.
I sit down with Leo on a log close to the fire that was burning a steady orange-blue color. I poke him and asked, “Do wanna burn some marshmallows?” He grinned at me and I pull the bag of marshmallows I was hiding behind my back out. He laughs and says,
“Ris, there is something I have to tell you?” I reply with,
“Oh yeah? What?” He rubs the back of his neck and smirks,
“Well there is a reason I am so hot.” I raise an eyebrow. “It would be easier to show you.” He holds out his hand and after a second it is lit up with orange fire.
“OH MY GODS LEO YOUR HAND IS ON FIRE! WHY IS YOUR HAND ON FIRE?” I shout in an overactive manner, and I thought nothing could surprise me anymore! He clenches his fist killing the fire and admits,
“It is my power, I can light on fire. Only certain Hephaestus kids can do it.” I decide to accept his explanation due to the fact that today had been totally crazy. I go back and grab some roasting sticks before retreating back to Leo. My parents are cuddling on another log and smile to myself. Leo is waiting exactly where he was a few moments ago. I plop down next to him and hand him a stick. He offers me a marshmallow and I gladly accepts. I stick my marshmallow into the fire and wait for it to turn perfectly golden brown. My mind wanders to Lexi and how she is probably sleeping safe and sound and normally in her bed. I totally blew her off today and I felt terrible about it. My thoughts are interrupted by a flying white projectile hitting my face, right on my nose. Leo is giggling like a crazy person and I respond by throwing my warm marshmallow that was on my stick in the fire right back. What a waste of perfectly good marshmallows but it was for a good cause. It gets lodged in his hair and he is momentarily in shock. He quickly regains his composure and grabs another marshmallow from the bag. He lights his hand on fire and melts the marshmallow in a flash before throwing it right at my face. I duck just in time and it hits the back of a girl camper that was talking behind me. She turns around in shock and her friends start giggling when they see the white melted blob on her back. I can tell by her shoulder length blonde hair and blue eyes that she is a Hermes kid. She smirks and says,
