Mikey's POV

The time I spent with Calum flew by and before I knew it, we were packing for the European leg of the tour.
"Mikey!  The car's here!" Calum yelled from the bottom of the stairs.
"I'll be right there!" I shouted back, reaching for my bag on the bed. Before I could grab it, my phone went off.
I checked the caller id and saw that it was my mom, "Hey, mom, I can't talk right now. Cal and I are just about to-"
"It happened again," the voice that came through my phone belonged to my older brother, Eli.
"Eli? Why do you have mom's phone? I'm kinda busy-"
"Mom's in the hospital again."
"What?" My voice dropped to a whisper.
"She got bad without telling us. Mike, she needs you here."
"Did she say that?"
"Well, no. She's unconscious right now," Eli told me.
"What? She's in a coma?"
"Just come, Mikey. Please." He hung up.
I sat down on the bed, staring at the wall so hard that I didn't realize that Calum had walked into the room and sat down next to me until he wrapped his arm around my shoulders, "Who was that?"
"I can't go."
"Go where?" Calum tilted his head.
"On tour. I can't go with you, Cally."
"Wait, what? Why? Did the person who called you say that? Was it my management? Was-"
"My mom has cancer, Cal," I cut him off. "And she's in the hospital again."
"C-cancer?"
"Yeah, she's had it for a while now.  It's called soft tissue sarcoma.  It causes her to get tumors in her stomach and stuff.  Gastrointestinal stromal tumors are what they're called, I think.  I guess she got another one and she blacked out because of it or something.  Either way, she's in the hospital right now and I need to be with her.  Is that okay?"
"Of course it is baby.  You don't need to ask me; your family comes first.  We'll drop you off at the hospital on the way to the airport, okay?" Calum pulled me into his chest.
"Thanks you," I tucked my head in the space between his neck and his shoulder.  "I'm sorry I can't go on tour with you.  I really wanted to."
"I really wanted you to, too.  But shit happens.  It's okay.  I'm just gonna miss you."
"I'm gonna miss you, too.
He kissed my head then stood up, "Well, we should get going, our- my flight is in two hours."
"I wish I could go with you."
"Me too, me too."
-
"I love you," Calum said from the other side of the car.
"I love you, too," I pulled him in for a deep kiss. "Have a great tour. I'll see you in two months."
"See you."
And then I walked into the hospital and he drove away.
"Hello I'm here for Karen Clifford."
The receptionist typed some information into the computer, "She's in Room 128 in the ICU for now."
"Thank you," I smiled at her before walking the seemingly mile long journey to my mother's hospital room.
I knocked on the door softly before I opened it to an empty room. The heart monitor was beeping steadily as my mom laid unconscious in the bed.
I sat down in the uncomfortable plastic chair that was set up next to the bed and grabbed her hand, careful to not jostle any of the tubes or wires scattered along her body, "Mom, what's even happening anymore?"
