The teams ran in every direction, gathering tools and other things they would need to build their side of the barn. The young children and women watched in anticipation as the men, young and old, began hammering and sawing the barn together. I eyed Harry and his friends, watching them work quickly and with speed. It's obvious they had done this many times.
"Freddie that's your third helping of pie. Your father is going to kill me when you're ill tonight." Felicité looked at the small toddler with a worried expression.
"Louis pawned his son off on you?" I grinned at my sister.
"No. I offered." She huffed as she stood up straight, placing her hands on her hips.
"How nice of you." I laced my fingers together, rocking back and forth on my feet.
"I suppose. He's quite the charmer. Already kissed me on the cheek four times." She smiled at the small boy.
"Just like his dad." I nodded.
"What do you think happened to his wife." Felicité asked after a few moments of silence.
"He was married?" I raised a brow.
"He mentioned his wife. He said when his wife was around she made apple preserves as well."
"I'm not sure. But it wouldn't hurt to ask." I shrugged my shoulders.
"I guess." Her brows furrowed. She looked over at her small son that our mother cradled in her arms. "I haven't been a very good mother to Jacob have I?" She sighed.
"Not particularly no." I bit my lower lip.
"I know." She breathed. "I was angry at myself. And Charles for leaving. And I took it out on my own son. It's not his fault his fathers an ass and his mother is immature."
"You're not immature."
Felicité glanced at me with a raised brow.
"Okay maybe a little. But you can always change that." I smiled.
"I am." She nodded, picking Freddie up and grabbing a napkin, wiping all evidence from his face.
I turned my attention back to the barn raising and to my surprise, all the teams had their sides up and were adding the wood siding to the walls. They were all close to winning. I watched Harry, he had his sleeves rolled up, his hat was discarded on the ground, leaving his curls to stick in every possible direction. But it suit him. His thin white shirt clung to his back because of the sweat that ran down it. I wasn't sure whether to think it was gross or attractive. I chose the latter.
Yells and cheering we're heard from all around. Everyone hollering for their favored team, calling out names and some even booing other teams. I didn't hear anyone cheering on Harry or any of his friends so I took matters into my own hands.
"Come on Harry!" I hollered and clapped my hands together. I received a few odd glances but ignored them as I continued yelling his name as well as Niall, Liam, and of course Louis'. Felicité and my parents joined in soon after me.
"Dad!" Freddie squealed as he caught sight of his father working on the barn.
"Freddie boy!" Louis yelled back, waving wildly at his son.
My father lifted Freddie into his arms, waving at Louis. Felicité had a wide smile on her face as she rocked Jacob, who was fast asleep.

"Harry Styles. How do you feel to be a champion carpenter?" I placed my arm through his as we began walking around the small pond that was a short walk from the festivities.
"I'm not sure if I could call myself a champion carpenter Adaline." Harry laughed.
"Well you did win the barn raising. That's quite an accomplishment." I looked up at him.
"I'm glad you think so." He smiled.
We walked in silence for a few minutes before Harry slowed to a stop and turned to look at me.
"I've already asked your father. But I was wondering if I could take you to the lake. I have a small boat I'd like to take you on." He asked me, his eyes full of hope.
"I'd love to. When?"
"Whenever you're free." He replied.
"I'm always free. Apart from Sundays." I answered.
"Perfect. How does tomorrow sound?" He looked down, lacing his hands with mine.
"That sounds great." I bit the inside of my cheek in an effort to hide the smile that grew across my lips.
"Thank you for inviting me today. I had a lot more fun than I anticipated." Harry looked at me.
"Of course. I'm glad you could make it." I nodded in agreement.
He began talking about building the barn and my mind drifted elsewhere. My eyes wandered the features of his face, taking him in. His eyes were a bright green, that lit up when he spoke of the things he loved. He had dimples imprinted in each of his cheeks, that showed each time he cracked even the smallest smile. He has the smallest wrinkles above his eyebrows, that proved he was full of emotion when he spoke. His lips were a light pink, and they seemed to move effortlessly as he talked. He repeatedly wiped his tongue across his lower lip, I wasn't yet sure if it was a nervous habit or it was just something he did.
Suddenly, he stopped talking. Only then I realized how close we had gotten to one another. One more step and we'd be an inch apart. He released one of my hands from his grasp and placed it on the side of my face, cupping it. His hand felt warm, steady. The quiet sounds of the water and rustling of trees was all that I could hear as he leaned into me, pressing his lips to mine.
My heart seemed to stop in that moment, yet speed up at the same time. His lips felt soft, comforting. His other hand, that was previously in my grip, moved to my waist, pulling me closer to him. I obliged, grasping onto his shirt. He pulled away for a moment, only to move in again, pressing his lips to mine again, but with a bit more force.
My hand wandered farther up, resting against his chest. I could feel his heart beating quickly under the thin fabric of his button up. I knew mine felt exactly the same. I could taste the berry pie on his lips he'd had an hour before. I longed to kiss him more deeply, but refrained from doing so, afraid to scare him away. The moment felt fragile at that time. The minute or so we stood in one another's embrace only seemed to last seconds before he pulled away.
"We should be getting back." He murmured, resting his forehead against mine.
I nodded, leaning away and grasping onto his arm again, letting him lead the way back to the loud gathering of people.
I'm sorry it's a bit short, but I feel like the kiss in the chapter makes up for the shortness tbh.
