Rattling chains awoke me from my slumber, closely followed by the sound of boots against wooden flooring. Wood? Could it be... the execution tower? I sluggishly rose from my metal makeshift bed, timidly walking towards a small, iron bared hole.
A window... well I wouldn't call it a window... more like a gap for clean air.
I couldn't see properly. My isolated cell prevented me from doing so. In a way... I'm glad... I could do without seeing people getting sentenced to hang today. I took drastic measures and rose to my tippy toes- but all I could glance upon were the crisp blue skies and beautiful morning sun.
I decided to give up my petty search for a sight other than my cell. I've watched the sun rise and set a couple of times now... have two days past or three?
I decided to rest some more. Nowadays I spent most of my time sleeping to distract me from my constant worries. Prince Levi's previous visit remained forever cherished in my mind- because he hadn't come back since.
I closed my eyes as a deep sigh escaped my lips, my aching heart failed to stop, distracting me from falling unconscious once again.
"Oi, brat. You choose now to be asleep?"
I sharply rose from my metal slab, meeting the steel gaze of Prince Levi, who stood against the crumbling walls, tiredly examining his golden jacket. A visit so soon? I'm overjoyed he's here... but he's not allowed to lay eyes upon me until the trial.
"I'm awake..."
I quietly remarked, neatening my clothing to a presentable level. Baths and luxury food remained scarce here. Prince Levi- once I examined his face- looked exhausted. Dark circles tainted his eyes and his skin looked paler than usual. I'm so very glad to see him, but can't help the worry over his visibly changed appearance.
"A-Are you okay...?"
My question must of scratched the surface of his buried emotions as Prince Levi's features began to darken- anger overpowering his once calm demeanour.
"I should be asking you that. Naturally I'm fine. My palace is in disbelief over the rumours and many have questioned me, although I avoid the topic every time."
I frowned, brushing away my sensation of guilt by picking a small bobble off my cotton jumper. The Prince's palace is troubled... the rumours are in full swing... accusations such as a relationship will consume the palace.
Everyone will know by now.
"I see... if you don't mind me asking... when will we announce?"
Prince Levi seemed to relax for a second, his body almost deflating. Did my question relieve him? How quaint... I stiffened once the Prince left his position against the concrete wall and slowly approached my cell.
"Such refreshing words to hear. I can announce whenever, but time and place play an important role. I believe in court would be most effective."
I smiled gently, my eyes lowering to my chained hands. The cells are dirty... I've been in here for quite some time now... do I look... unappealing? Prince Levi seemed to notice my sudden discomfort as he loudly clicked his tongue.
