12 years. I've made it through 12 years of school counting kindergarten without any problem and now of all flipping years trouble wants to start.
"Sapphire I know you want to finish your last year of high school with people you know but it's not safe for you especially in this day and time." My mom moved around the house packing boxes and moved them in piles like they weren't heavy.
"Ugh can't we just move to another district while I attend the same school." I whined and followed her around the house while she worked.
"Don't the kids pick on you at your school Sapphire? Why are you so persistent on wanting to stay?" My dad came out of nowhere giving me his 2 cent when I didn't ask for change.
"Yes the kids pick on me but I'm use to being called Quick Silver and The Grey Noble One. That's been my name since kindergarten. I'll feel out of place if I move to an all wolf school."
"You are a 'wolf' honey you should feel out of place around humans."
"Mom I'm barely a wolf I don't have strength like you guys I can't run as fast as you guys even in wolf form. I'm more human then I am wolf." My parents sighed at me in frustration they hate when I insult myself.
"Look Sapphire there's a new pack taking over this area and they've found out about you. Which means they are going to share it with all the close packs around here. They'll come looking for you and we can't let that happen." My dad looked into my eyes as if he was pleading with me to understand.
"Dad if the entire wolf population looks down on me what makes you think that the top pack will accept me?"
"They don't have to accept you dear they just have to protect you." His words made me frown.
"Look Sapphire our number one priority is to make sure you're safe and you will be with the Black Moon Pack. Now no more whining just please hurry and finish your packing."
I looked into my moms stressed eyes and obeyed. It's not like I've ever been excepted so things won't exactly change. The humans didn't accept me because I was different I was the girl who apparently dyed her hair since she was old enough to walk. I could live with that label because I knew it wasn't true and that they didn't accept me because they didn't understand.
Wolves on the other hand knew why I looked the way I did. Grey wolves are very rare and some don't even make it after birth because there parents kill them. I was blessed with a second chance I suppose.
My real parents left me because they got pregnant when they weren't mated. In the wolf society you aren't allowed to have kids if you aren't with your mate. But if you do the child is a grey wolf. We make packs weak and it gives them a bad reputation which is why the grey wolves who do survive live with humans in areas that aren't taken over by a pack.
But packs have expanded there borders leaving little space to call home for me now. I'm nothing compared to an actual she-wolf. I'm as strong as a human and I could barely out run one probably. Which makes me weak among wolves. They call us fragile and worthless. Perhaps I am. The only people that don't see me as someone less then them are my parents.
Even though they aren't my birth parents I love them the same. I remember when they laid there eyes on me sitting alone at the orphanage. They smiled at me and asked if I wanted to come home with them. I was hesitant at first thrown off by there niceness. But I accepted and they've stood by me ever since. They left there pack to become rouge and live with the humans. They couldn't have children so they made the decision to adopt one. There pack and family supported them and even asked them to come back with the human child and they'd work something out. That was until they found out I was a grey.
