~Alex~

I looked around my new college dorm. My roommate still wasn't here, I hope he's not one of those people that like to throw parties all of the time. I couldnt believe I was finally in college I could finally learn what I loved, English. I had alway enjoyed writing stories and such. I looked around the small dorm. It looked like it had just been cleaned, maybe it had. I heard the door unlock and I turned around.

In the doorway stood a lengthy guy wearing tight black skinny jeans and a Pierce the Veil t-shirt. I took notice of his dark hair and many piercings. He had tattoos down one of his arms and his neck. He also had gauges and snake bites. His dark eyes seemed to be kind and caring but his attire made you think otherwise. He had a broad smile across his face which was half covered by his hair. He was holding a guitar case as well.

"Holy crap Zander!-" a girl poked her head around the corner and smiled then looked at who I'm guessing was Zander and said something in Mandarin, her smile widened. I took two years of mandarin in high school but I could only understand some of what she was saying. I wish I had paid better attention.

"I know..." Said Zander. He ignored her and asked what bed I wanted. I shrugged. "Okay suit yourself, I want the bed by the window." He said then smiled. He smiled a lot. "I'm Zander and this is my friend Lexie." He said gesturing to the girl. She smiled her bright red hair was obviously dyed. She was wearing a neon green tank-top that was low cut and black leggings. She had dark rings of eyeliner around her green eyes.

"I think I deserve more then just friend Zander, I mean we've been friends for nearly fifteen years and known each other since we were toddlers." She rolled her eyes I could tell she was just teasing.

"Fine then this is MY BEST FRIEND IN THE WHOLE WORLD, no wait, IN THE WHOLE GALAXY! OR EVEN UNIVERSE!" He said laughing. She laughed too.

"Hey you never told us your name!" Said Lexie. I had I feeling I would be seeing her a lot.

"I'm Alex." I said blankly. I didn't know how to react to them. I glanced between the two of them. They looked older than me. Maybe nineteen. Maybe it was because I was gay and totally into punk guys but Zander was hot. That's weird don't think like that! I said to myself. I wanted to fit in not be that freaky gay kid.

"Ah freshmen they have so much to learn." Said Lexie she smiled at me.

"Remember our freshman year?" He asked Lexie. They laughed. They seemed to have a lot if inside jokes.

"So, kid, tell us about yourself." Said Lexie. She leaned up against the door frame like she was waiting for me to burst into a big drama of my life or something.

"We'll I'm from Beverly Hills-" Zander let out a low whistle.

"You must be one of those rich kids." He said laughing. I shook my head.

"No..." I was about to say that my parents wouldn't give me any money but I didn't want to sound like a brat.

"We're from Detroit so we wouldn't know about rich people problems." Said Zander using air quotes. He was smiling so it must be more of his teasing. I forced a smile, I wasn't used to interacting with people this much.

"What are you majoring in?" Asked Lexie.

"English."

"Ooo! That's something great to Major in! So many career opportunities!" I nodded in response.

"What about you guys? What are you majoring in?" I asked feeling like that was the most I'd said to them all day.

"I'm a double major in Art and Music." He gestured to the guitar which was now laying on his bed.

"I'm majoring in Russian... I know I know it's strange but it's not fair that people in other countries learn about America and we don't learn about them! So I'm starting with Russia then I'll move on to Germany, Japan, Bengali, Brazil! The possibilities are endless!" She beamed. Her face really lit up when she talked about it. "But Russia is my favorite country so I thought I'd do that." She shrugged.

"Why Russia?" I asked.

"I don't know. Why not?" I shrugged. "Well I've got to get going because I have to meet my new roommate!" She waved "Tootles!" She said and giggled like a four year old then shut the door and left. I could feel Zander watching me. I turned around but I was wrong he was digging through his guitar case.

"Sorry if Lexie bothers you she's... Kinda like a child. Her father died of breast cancer and I think it has something to do with that." He said.

"It's fine... And breast cancer?" I asked, then was alarmed at how rude that sounded.

"Yep." He chuckled "One of the few." He sat down on his bed facing me smiling "It also didn't help that we live in Detroit but you know beggars can't be choosers!" His smile never seemed to fade. "So tell me about yourself besides the Beverly Hills part." He said.

I sat down on my bed skeptically. I wasn't sure about Zander but he seemed nice enough. "I... what do you want to know?" I asked. I was struggling for dialogue I usually didn't have to talk much because the only people around were my parents.

"What's your favorite color?" He asked. Then he grinned.

"Green I guess..." I shrugged

"Mine is blue... Like the color of your eyes." He chuckled. Was he being flirty? "What about... your parents?"

"My parents are super stuck up rich people."I said, I stared at my hands in my lap my light brown hair falling over my eyes.

"Ah the stereotypes!" His gaze lingered on me. "My parents were just parents. They didn't act particularly strange or rude." He said. "But then we went bankrupted and had to sell our house and live on the streets for a while." He laughed, "Ah those were the days!" Zander was strange. Living on the streets didn't seem that enjoyable. Maybe because I grew up in a mansion in Beverly Hills. I still doubted it would be fun to live on the streets.

"Do you like this college?" I asked him. Seeing as it was his second year here he might be able to help me understand it better.

"It's nice." He said blankly. That was all he had to say about this college? It was in New Jersey by the shore line. You could see the beach from our window. It was big enough and seemed as he said, nice. "The beach is fun."

"As fun as sand can be." I said.

"Not a fan of the beach then?" He asked. I shook my head.

"Well then you're not going to like New Jersey." He laughed. "Well not the parts with sand and water." I nodded and glanced out the window at the blue ocean. The Atlantic Ocean looked a lot different than the Pacific. I glanced at Zander then around the room again.

"This room needs decorations!" Said Zander standing up and looking around.

"Yeah." I said.

"You don't say much."

"You're right."

He grinned.
