~Alex~
It was finally Zander's birthday. I had his gift wrapped and it was tucked behind the bed, in-between the wall and the bed. I smiled to myself and looked at my phone for the time. I couldn't help but laugh at my background which was a selfie Lexie took with Zander kissing my cheek in the background.
I smiled as Lexie and Zander walked through the door holding coffee. I sat down on the bed and Zander came and sat down by me and handed me a coffee cup. "Just try it, it's chai latte." He smiled.
Lexie smiled, "So it's your birthday! What do you wan to do?" Asked Lexie taking a sip of her coffee.
"I mostly just want to hang out with my best friend and my boyfriend." He said giving me a quick kiss on the cheek. I smiled and sipped the chai latte. It wasn't to bad. "Ohh also let's go to the diner and get chicken noodle soup!" He said happily.
"Sweet!" Said Lexie smiling. She jumped up, "I need to get you your present!" She said setting her coffee down and running out the door.
I smiled at him and handed him the box Landon gave me. "This is from Landon, he asked for me to give it to you, he's sorry he missed your birthday." He opened it and smiled, then laughed and held up a Kiss CD.
"There's a story." He said smiling. "When it was my first year Landon was next door to me. Lexie was over and we started blasting kiss when it came on the radio. Don't ask why we had a radio because I don't remember." He laughed, "But anyways he came and got mad at us because he was trying to study." He sighed happily, "Ahh memories."
When he finished his story Lexie came back in. She was holding one of Zander's sketches. This was different than his other sketches his were usually so life like and he did mostly humans. This sketch however was a abstract fox with wings and many other un-fox like features.
"When you gave this to me like a year ago I loved it. When you told me Mr.Welk wanted you to enter the art show I knew you wouldn't, so I entered it for you!" She smiled. "I knew it would win in the abstract department, and I was right." She smiled and handed him a blue ribbon.
"Oh my god! Really?" He asked standing up hugging her she smiled.
"They want to paint a mural of it on the west pass bridge." She said happily.
"Then maybe after I could sell my art!" He said smiling, "Thank you so much!" Lexie smiled and nodded as I reached behind the bad pulling out my gift I reached up and handed it to him.
He sat down and unwrapped it and opened the box and his eyes widened. "You didn't..." He smiled and stood up wrapping his arms around me giving me a long passionate kiss which I couldn't help but blush at because Lexie was in the room.
"Thank you so much." He said he smile and sat down pulling out each record carefully. "You got all the best ones." He said happily.
"Landon helped me." I said smiling.
"Well let's play one!" Lexie said happily. Alex carefully pulled out the record player and set it up. He set in a Beatles vinyl and I Am The Walrus started playing. We all just smiled and enjoyed the music.
・・・
A few songs and half a chai latte later we started discussing Christmas plans.
"I'm not going home for the holidays." Said Lexie, "I don't care, my mom couldn't pay me to come home." She sighed.
"I don't really know what I'm going to do." Zander said, "Carson is going to his in laws and my parents are skipping Christmas like in that one movie." He smiled "But they're actually going on a cruise. What about you Alex?" He asked.
"Well I guess I should go visit my parents... Since I skipped out on them on Thanksgiving." I smiled. "You guys want to come with me?" I asked. "Get away to the warmness of Beverly Hills?" I laughed.
Zander smiled, "I've never been to California." He said.
"What? Really! Well then I guess you're coming with me there for Christmas." I smiled. "You wanna come to Lexie?" I asked.
She nodded, "I think it would be fun." She smiled.
"I should call them and ask..." I said. "I'll be right back." I said stepping out in the hallway. I pulled out my cellphone dialed and waited.
"Hi Alex!" Said my moms cheerful voice, "We've been worried sick about you! How's my baby doing?" She asked.
"I'm doing great mom, I just-"
"You hear that Mike? He's doing great!" She said to my father.
"Mom, I was wondering if for Christmas I could have some friends come with me to our house." At this point I was regretting not getting a jacket the cold, New Jersey air was freezing to a Californian boy.
"You made friends! Oh tell us who they are!"
"Well there's Lexie... And the other one is... Sorta my boyfriend." I knew that was the killer. The line went silent until my mom said a forced okay. I told her all about Lexie and Zander and she agreed to get us plane tickets. My mom wasn't as set on me finding a girl as my dad was, and I was thankful for that.
When I got back inside I told them what my mom said. "Get ready for your five day vacation to the sunny beaches of California! We're leaving on the twenty second and we'll be back the twenty seventh." I smiled, for once I was actually excited to go home.
・・・
One week after our plans were made, Zander and I we sitting watching Netflix yet again. Lexie however was not around, we just couldn't keep tabs on her.
I sighed and looked out the window, "So much snow..." I mumbled.
"Californian boy." Zander laughed. "This is nothing." He smiled.
"If this is nothing then I'd hate to see something." I said shaking my head. Just then his phone started ringing.
"Hello." He waited a couple minutes before sighing, "Okay be there as fast as we can." He hung up and looked at me. "So that was Lexie... And she crashed Ol' Red and she's like freaking out because that truck is like family and we need to go pick her up."
"Well is she okay?" I asked.
"Yeah she, and everyone else, is fine. Her truck is totaled though." He sighed, "The police are there and everything." He picked up his phone and called Landon, "Remember that favor you own me, well I kinda need a ride."
・・・
Ten minutes later we were sitting in Landon's rinky dink car. We could've taken mine but it wasn't working well with all the snow. I was amazed Landon's worked. Landon adjusted his glasses and sighed, "Is Lexie okay?" He asked.
"She's fine." Zander said repeating the story to him. When we pulled up on the crash sight it was a three car pile-up. Lexie's truck was in the middle and all smashed up Lexie was leaning on the fence of the freeway holding a cow hide seat cover.
Zander got out and walked over to her. When she looked up at him her face was stained with tears as she clutched the seat cover. She looked down and nodded then walked over to Ol' Red kissing the hood and waving as two truck took it away.
She got in the car and started balling, "The last gift from my dad..." She shuttered and Zander pulled her into a hug.
"At least you got your seat covers and you license plates." Said Zander.
"And everything else." She said holding up a bag full of things. "The police said it wasn't even my fault, the person in front of me hit black ice and spun out and me and that other guy hit him." She sighed.
"The best thing is that you're okay." Said Zander as Landon drove us back home, that night we all mourned the death of Ol' Red.
