Epilogue
Heidi texted Calynn as soon as she ship doors closed behind Cole. Meet me in-game. Cole says something is waiting for us. As she sent it, she turned, realizing the group was beginning to disperse. She heard Calynn's phone buzz before she saw her. Calynn looked surprised by the text as she picked up her phone, and then looked up at Heidi.
"Sorry, I didn't realize you were here," Heidi apologized to the girl. An idea formed in her head as she approached Calynn. "Would you like to come over for a few hours? I think Cole may have sent the yeti on us and my house is very quiet."
"If he did we better hurry," Calynn stated. "Lead the way."
They ran back to Heidi's house. Within moments, they were at her front door being greeted by Ollie, excited by the new face. Ben greeted them, holding a couple sandwiches. He looked at them, startled.
"Sorry, I didn't know you were having company," he stated as Heidi brushed by them. "Liza and I were about to go have lunch on the porch.
"Sorry, Ben but we are needed in the game. Would you cook something up for dinner, we'll probably be hungry when we return."
"Of course," he stated as they ran up the stairs. Calynn bid him a quick greeting and a thanks, almost inaudible as she was out of breath.
"Thank you! We'll be back in a few," Heidi continued up the flights of stairs. She stopped on the second floor and turned to Calynn. "Do you want to go into the library or my bedroom?"
"At this point...whichever is closer," she said between breaths. She clutched the railing, trying to get her bearings. Heidi gave a look of amusement before climbing up another set of stairs. When they reached the library, Calynn gave a sigh of relief. She climbed on one of the couches and lay down, out of breath. Heidi stopped by the bar and grabbed some water bottles and candy bars. She gave one of each to Calynn before sitting on the couch that looked out the front window. The glass stretched across half of the room, just like the one in the back. With the stars visible across their space, it was the perfect place to relax.
They quickly ate their candy bars and drank some water before they each prepared to go into the game. Calynn was the last to speak. "See you on the other side."
When Heidi woke on the other side, Griss had moved them into a cave right above their previous resting space. There was a small notch in the rock below them, a good spot for an eagle. It was difficult to reach from above and below. A nearly vertical cliff, only climbable by goats and those brave enough to brave the possible fall.
"I may ask for some goats at this rate," Calynn said as she noticed Heidi looking down the edge of the cliff. When she looked up, Griss was standing over a fire, roasting what looked like a goat. The five bears and four stags slept in the back of the cave. As Heidi looked at them, she realized an opening to one side where the cave deepened.
"I've looked through most of the nearby caverns that I could squeeze into. There was nothing but a fox and some bats. The fox ran for it, but the bats are still down there. We have nothing to worry about."
"That's what you think," Heidi stated. She stood and exited the cave, looking up the slope where she might be able to climb higher and look for other cavern openings. When she saw a narrow, climbable pathway, she took to it immediately. Calynn followed quickly as Griss looked at them, bewildered.
"Where are you going," Griss shouted as they climbed the rock face.
"Follow us and you'll find out," Heidi shouted back. After climbing a few hundred feet she reached the mountaintop and lay on the surface of the rock. Although the surface was flat, she didn't want to be spotted by unwanted company. The jagged rocks provided enough cover no one could see her body if they weren't looking. Then she crawled up to one of the rocks and peered over it. Calynn followed quickly.
