Chapter 6
~
Ludwig and Feliciano walked around the park for a little while after the fireworks had died down. Later on, when they were walking down a side street to their apartment, a very drunk man whistled at their joined hands and smirked.
"You're getting lucky tonight, bro!" The man clapped Ludwig on the shoulder before stumbling away.
Feliciano flinched and stared up at the German, fright apparent in his eyes.
"He was drunk, Feliciano. It was just a joke. I'm not going to do anything." He squeezed the Italian's hand reassuringly. "It's not like you've never had sex with me before."
Feliciano blushed a crimson red and he looked down at his feet as he remembered that spring night, ten years ago. The teenaged Italian had been jealous and nervous because of Ludwig's vast experience on the subject but Ludwig didn't seem to mind that he had never done it before. In fact, he liked it.
The German smirked at the embarrassed Italian that stood beside him. He gets embarrassed so easily.
Gently, he tugged on Feliciano's hand and they continued walking. They passed a group of teenagers who laughed at a joke one of the group told and some gave the two men unappreciative glares.
The Italian started feeling self-conscious and he moved closer to Ludwig, just being close made him feel safe.
Feliciano watched a little girl, maybe six years old, pointing at them while walking beside her mother on the sidewalk.
Society is against anything remotely different.
Feliciano thought, becoming even more self-conscious. But the little girl skipped over to them, her mother jogging behind her trying to catch her.
Ludwig smiled at her. "Isn't it a little late for a young lady like you to be awake?"
"Nope! Mommy said I could stay up late tonight and see the fireworks with her." The little girl explained as her mom came up behind her and smiled apologetically at them.
Curiously, she peered at their intertwined fingers and then took a long look at Feliciano then at Ludwig.
"Your boyfriend is pretty." She said to Ludwig, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
And to the German it really was.
He leant down and smirked. "I know."
Feliciano blushed and stared at the little girl looking up at Ludwig.
"Come on, Lizzy." Her mother took her hand. "It's time to go."
Lizzy pouted but followed anyway after waving at them. Her mother turned back and mouth an 'I'm sorry' at them and smiled.
Ludwig smiled back shook his head, dismissing the unneeded apology.
Feliciano loved the German's smile. It was contagious.
"I've never told you this but I love your smile. But you never do it a lot." Feliciano stepped in front of him.
"There's a reason behind everything." Ludwig sighed. "Let's get you home."

The next morning, Feliciano woke up feeling happy. Feeling like it would be okay.
He hadn't woken up like that in a long time.
The days he had off for New Year's flew past and then he found himself at the office once again along with everyone else. No manuscript had been assigned to Feliciano so he was helping out Aaron with his.
