Chapter 19
~
The rest of the day just felt like hell for Ludwig. Nothing bad happened in particular but Feliciano's words cut through him like a knife. They rang through his head all day and by five o'clock he was ready to punch someone.
The German had no reason to be mad. It was his own fault for making that deal 11 years ago when he was well aware of his love for Feliciano. It was his fault for keeping up the bet. It was his fault for lying and not telling the Italian about it. It was his fault for letting someone else break the news to him instead of building up the courage and telling the truth.
After all, the truth always comes out in the end.
But it's not the end. Not for me.
Ludwig's conscience bit back. He didn't want it to be the end. Because he was still in love and nothing was impossible. He desperately wanted to just get onto his knees in front of the Italian and beg and plead for forgiveness but Feliciano said it himself; he wasn't going to forgive him.
The week dragged on and Ludwig tried his best to look like he wasn't drowning in sorrow. Finally, Friday came and the day was horrible. No one listened to his input at two of the meetings, Jared wouldn't leave his office for six hours and during a major conference call, his line went dead twice. Everyone thought he hung up on purpose just to get out of - the quite tedious - group call.
On top of that he was still mending his heart over everything that had gone down on Monday.
As he drove home he frowned and pulled over and looked around at the restaurants and shops. Ludwig got out of the car and just began walking. He loosened his tie and enjoyed the warm, evening May air. After a while he didn't even know where he was going, he just wanted to walk.
So his feet continued to move; one in front of the other as he trudged on. Time was lost track of and the German had already been walking for four hours. He had walked to his car six times already and now it was nine o'clock at night and he was standing in front of a bar, neon sign flickering.
The urge to drown his sadness in alcohol was rising to the surface, not for the first time in his life. He'd done this before. And then he met his angel who had just broken his heart.
Ludwig aggressively shoved open the door and sauntered over to the bar. He sat on the cushioned stool and waved over a bartender. A wavy-haired blonde with a T-shirt that had a v-neck that was way to revealing walked over to him and smiled sexily.
"What would you like today, sir?" She asked, her voice clear as water.
"I'll start with a beer. Molson, please." Ludwig stated simply.
With a beer in his hand he turned on the bar stool to watch the band set up on the small stage. The later he stayed, the fuller the bar got, the louder the music became, and the more drinks he ordered.
It was a good thing Ludwig had a high alcohol tolerance because he ordered stronger drinks and managed to stay sober. But his mind was a little hazy. He stared at the coke and rum in his glass as visions of Feliciano played in his head. Gritting his teeth he suddenly became frustrated with himself and sitting there in self-pity.
I don't need him! I'm at a bar with a sexy woman sitting next to me, god damn it.
