Chapter 4

~

Feliciano burst through the front doors of Winfield Publishing out into the cool afternoon, autumn air. He looked around before spotting Aaron leaning against his car.

"Hey, Aaron!" Feliciano smiled and waved.

The Italian had ignored Ludwig's demand that he stay at the office and decline the lunch offer.

He doesn't control me.

Feliciano pulled his jacket tighter around his waist as the wind whipped around him. He pushed his wind-tousled hair back from his forehead as he finally reached his co-worker.

"Sorry, I got caught up with something." Feliciano flashed an apologetic smile. "But we can go to lunch now."

"Awesome. I know this great sushi restaurant just down the road." Aaron unlocked the doors to his black jeep. "The bosses usually take everyone out for Christmas lunch there."

Feliciano rolled his eyes as he remembered Ludwig. Fortunately, Aaron hadn't noticed.

"Sounds good." He replied anyway.

The Italian climbed into the passenger seat and buckled himself in after closing the door. He watched as Aaron did the same and soon they were off to the restaurant.

No Ludwig this time.

Or so Feliciano thought.

The Italian leant back in his seat and laughed. Aaron had told him a story of his brother pretending to be Superman and breaking his arm while 'flying'.

"Oh my God! Was he okay?" Feliciano asked, still giggling.

"He was fine after getting a cast." Aaron smiled and stared into Feliciano's eyes. "The food's on me."

"No, let me pay at least half." He insisted.

"No, no. It's okay. You're new around here and I want to be your friend. Seriously, don't worry about it." Aaron reached across the table and grabbed Feliciano's hand with the money in it. "Put it away."

Feliciano stared for a few seconds and blushed at the contact.

I always blush when guys touch me and rarely have any reaction when girls touch me. What is wrong with me? I love girls.

Yeah, he'd gone out with one guy ten years ago. But that didn't matter now. That was the past and Feliciano didn't like his past. It was full of horrible memories of his father and his brother and then there was him.

His smile that used to cross his lips ever so often, his sparkling cobalt eyes, his blonde hair messy when he woke up in the morning. And his kisses. Oh, his kisses. Tch, and I said he doesn't matter.

Feliciano shook his head and squeezed his eyes shut before he felt a a grip tighten gently on his hand. He looked up to see Aaron's worried face.

"Feliciano, you okay?"

"I'm fine." He lied.

The Italian's eyes shot to the door that opened and a tall, muscular, blonde German walked in, his ragged breaths were the only thing Feliciano could hear, despite the noisy atmosphere of the restaurant.

Ludwig stalked over to the table and glared at their joined hands.

Feliciano pulled his hand away as he noticed and timidly looked up at his boss.

"We need to talk later." Ludwig nodded firmly before walking out the door.

Feliciano whined as he was dragged down the hallway of his and Ludwig's apartment building floor.

"Come on, Ludwig! I just got home from work, I need a shower." The Italian cringed at Ludwig's tight grip.

"You'll have time later." The German replied curtly.

Feliciano had had enough. It'd only been five days and he was sick and tired of this.

"Stop." He tried to yank his hand from the other man's grip. "STOP IT!"

Ludwig turned on his heel and faced Feliciano, releasing his wrist. "What?"

"Why do you continue to do this?" He hissed angrily. "I'm not your dog! So stop keeping me on a short leash. You don't have any right to tell me where I go for lunch or with whom I go! You're always dragging me around everywhere, trying to get me to tell you that I love you and you think being aggressive is going to provoke it?" The Italian scoffed. "You're an idiot."

Ludwig chuckled bitterly. "I'm an idiot? Haha. Coming from the one who thought I was laughing at them when they confessed their love to me." He crossed his arms tightly over his chest, suit jacket riding up his arm slightly to reveal the permanent ink on his skin.

"You did laugh!" Feliciano shouted and pushed him against the apartment door that belonged to himself.

Ludwig sighed loudly in frustration before grabbing the Italian's shoulders and flipping their positions so he was pinned against the wooden door.

"How about this for a change?" Ludwig whispered, leaning so close to Feliciano's face. "I laugh when I'm nervous. You know that."

Feliciano's eyes widened in shock.

But it doesn't matter because I don't feel that way about you anymore.

"L-Ludwig..."

"Gute Nacht." Ludwig cut him off and walked into his own apartment, slamming the door behind him.

Feliciano brought a hand up to his forehead.

Maybe it does matter.
