Peeta
I worked in the bakery that night, trying to work everything out in my brain. I was remembering it was only a few weeks since we had gotten together and I had been the town nutcase. I was struggling to remember all the times Cato had promised to help me....
"I'm gonna take care of you...."
"I'm gonna protect you....
"I love you beyond words..."
Tears began to well up in my eyes as I looked upstairs at the door yhat hid my Cato from the rest of the eorld. The struggle he was going through must be super hard to handle. I could relate though because I had lost my mom and brother. In a way, you could say I lost my dad too. The dad I hadn't known since I was in New England last summer.
All these changes were depressing me and I couldnt understand why. Why can I not just have some peace of mind?
The bell rang, and suddenly Adonis appeared before me in all his glory. This guy was tanned and muscular and had short, wavy blond hair. It was enough for me to get an erection but thank God he couldn't see it through the counter!
He smiled as he came up and said, "Hi, I'm Gloss Maverick from Ashbury. Just moved into town and wanted to know if you got any fresh bread?"
"I'm Peeta Mellark and yes I do. What kind would you like?" I said as I checked the ovens.
"Rolls with goat cheese filling if you dont mind." he said still smiling.
My breathing was getting heavy as I walked around trying to remember Cato and all he had done for me. But Gloss though...he was a fine lookin' man right there.
I pulled out a baker's dozen rolls and placed them perfectly in a box. I handed the box and said, "Here you go on me. Welcome to the neighborhood Gloss."
"Oh, thanks buddy! I will see you later..." he said as he walked outside and walked across the street to...his house? I was guessing it was his house. I tried to shake it out of my head but the old promises were fading...
Cato
I laid in bed crying once again from the nightmares. The nightmares of the scene of the accident. The burning car, my parents inside screaming to get out, these thoughts were tearing me apart on the inside. The tears were streaming down my face and I couldn't stop them, couldn't hold on anymore. I had to be strong for Peeta but how could I be strong when on the inside I was wilting like a mayflower in winter?
Suddenly the door opened and an unusually cheerful Peeta came in and kissed me on the cheek.
"Baby, is it the nightmares again?" he asked me so tenderly, the very same way he talked that made me fall in love all over again...
"Yeah." I whispered back.
"It's okay. I know how hard this is for you...trust me I know." Peeta said as he put his lips to mine and made me forget all the pain and the struggle to live.
