Bones came over to my place in the evening. I was expecting her since Gwen had already texted me.

Something about Adrianna still bothered me. And I thought saying this to the Detective would make the suspicion go off me for a while.

I said something, and it was a calculated move.

'Uh, Detective?' I said.

'Yes?'

'I think there's something fishy about Claire.'

'Really?' she said looking mildly surprised. 'Let me tell you a secret.'
I leaned in closer. 'I think so too.'
I smiled slightly.
'But then,' Bones whispered, 'aren't you all hiding?'

I jerked back. Bones laughed.

'Not funny, Detective, not funny at all,' I said hotly. 'I was trying to confide in you.'

'Of course you were, I just wanted to lighten  the atmosphere.'

She kept the teacup on the tray kept in front of her. 'Good day, Rosetta.'

'It is,' I said as Bones made her way out.

As I held the door for her, she said, 'Il est éstrange de craindre la mort lorsque la vie est la plus effrayante de tous.'

I took in a sharp breath and slammed the door shut.
