I was watching Netflix when the doorbell rang. I went to get it since Mom and Dad were in the golf club. They wouldn't be home for hours since the club was in the next town. So much for helping their "traumatised with best friend's death" daughter.

I opened the door and saw Gwen. Then came the big surprise. She was with James and the stupid woman, you guessed it, Bones.

I greeted her with a plastered smile, 'Vera Bones, the detective.'

'Detective Bones,' James countered.

I grinned and said, 'Yeah, right.'

Poor Gwen looked confused and managed to give a smile.

'Come on in,' I said in the sweetest voice I could imagine.

Gwen raised an eyebrow and walked in.

James and Bones followed.

They sat down on the white sofa while Gwen and I sat on the opposite one.

'So,' Vera started, 'Gwen here told me that you guys were planning on a group study thing. Right?'

I gave Gwen a forced smile and then looked at James, 'Yup.'

'Well, which subject?' Bones asked.

I tried to glance at her books. But the idiot was sitting practically two meters away and I couldn't see the name.

I made a wild guess and said, 'Philosophy.'

'But Gwen doesn't have philosophy,' James said with a smirk.

Shit.
'Oh actually it's sociology. Claire can't see the difference I guess,' Gwen said.

Let the popular girl play dumb. Cliché. She's gonna pay for that.

'Oh! Silly me!' I said making an innocent expression.

'Never mind. It must be very distressing for you, right? I mean, Emma and Amber were your best friends after all. And Casey, last year..' Bones shook her head but had absolutely no pity in her stone cold, grey eyes.

I stared back. 'Yes, it has been very hard and distressing. But I have learnt to let it go. Like, after Casey's death last year, I was devastated. Well, you should know, since you saw me in that condition. This is all very scary. I don't like all this... murder.'

Bones nodded, 'I understand.'

She then turned to Gwen and said,'So you two are friends for a very long time?'

Damn, someone knew her job.

Gwen was gonna have a hard time explaining this one.

'Hypothetically, no. But, our teacher told me I should tutor her, seeing that she's not being able to cope with the class after the news.'

This was true, our stupid teacher had told her to tutor me. When she approached me to talk about it, I told her to fuck off. So now, if Detective Bones tried to cross check, she would have to be convinced

James looked at the watch. He said, 'Vera, we gotta go. The other place? Remember?'

'Silly question. I know and remember everything. Now,' she stood up,'we'll leave. Thanks for your time.' She gave us a tight smile walked towards the door and James opened it for her. God, what a hypocrite.

As soon as Bones was out of sight, I looked at Gwen.

'What the hell was that?'
