The Story of Lakai

Chapter 1

It was a cool spring night. 
It was time for the daily lookout.
Leo decided that they should split up to check the area quicker, his favorite tv show was going to be on in an hour and he didn't want to miss it.
They waved Master Splinter goodbye and disappeared into the darkness. 
Ralph went South, Donnie went East, Mikey went west, and Leo went North. 
Leo began to check higher ground. His feet barely making a sound as he ran from roof to roof. 
He stopped for a minute to let in the wonderful air.
It was quiet.
He inhaled and exhaled closing his eyes. 
Suddenly the sound of faint sobbing filled his ears. 
Leo froze to pinpoint the sound. It was below him. 
He gracefully jumped down, softly landing on his feet. In the corner of the alley was a figure crouched over and crying.
Leo hadn't been noticed yet and debated whether he should go over. 
He stared at the figure which seemed to be a human girl.
Her dark shirt hiccuped up and down as she softly sobbed. 
He couldn't see her face.
Leo wasn't allowed to be seen by humans. His father always worried when the boys left they might get discovered.
He kept looking at her and noticed something odd. 
A grey furry tail. 
What...
He thought for a second. 
She wasn't human she was a mutant. 
All mutants had an unspoken agreement that they were allowed to see and help each other.  It took him a few seconds to let that sink in as he thought of the best way to approach her.
He stepped a few feet closer to her and gently said
"Hey are you okay?" 
She jerked up, clearly startled.
Her face was of a wolf, she had black tipped ears, and her hands were paw-like. 
Out of all the mutants Leo had seen in his life she was the most perfectly mutated.  It was like her body was elegantly formed. 
Leo soon realized that her shirt wasn't dark, it was stained with blood.
Her big soft blue eyes showed absolute fear as she scooted away farther into the alley. 
Leo stopped walking.
He saw the fear and loneliness on her face, he immediately felt sympathy for her. 
She looked around his age and about his height.
Her chest began to hiccup again as the fear on her face melted into sadness.
She bent her head and cried clutching her legs to her stomach but still did not let her guard down.
She was scared.  Her body was shaking hard enough to be visible. 
Leo noticed cuts in her fur and clothing. 
What did the world do to you? 
He thought as he knelt down five feet away from her. 
"I'm not going to hurt you". 
She was still whimpering. 
"I'm Leonardo Yoshi, my brothers just call me Leo.  What is your name? I want to help you. Do you have a home?"
She nodded her head no and began to sob harder.
"Hey, it's okay. I can help you.  Are you afraid of me?"
She slightly looked up at him her face wet with tears. 
He could see the distrust in her eyes. 
She sucked in air and tried to run but gasped in pain and collapsed on the ground. 
Leo, a bit hurt that she would try to run away ran over to her side. 
She tried to run again and went a few feet. 
Leo ran after her and grabbed her arm.  Natural impulse kicked in and she turned around and clawed his face.  Leo let go in shock.
Her claws were only hard enough to just skim his skin.
It seemed hesitant and unsure.
He put his hand to his face and felt the warm wet feeling of blood. 
The girl froze.
Her blue eyes were wide with horror. 
She stared at her hand as she held it in a tight fist.
Her lip trembled as she continued to stare.  The she wolf gave one last glance towards Leo with a glint of regret and quickly disappeared into the streets. 
"Leo!" Ralph called. 
Leo heard him running across the rooftops "Over here."
Leo called back hiding his new injury.
"Where have you been?  I've been looking all over for you." Ralph said.
"You're going to miss Space Heroes." 
Leo blankly stared at the exit of the alleyway "Yeah, I guess."
Was his response. 
"Leo, are you okay? What's that on your face?  What happened?" Ralph hammered him with questions.
"Just a run in with the Purple Dragons, don't worry I sent them running."
That seemed to satisfy Ralph enough.
"Come on.  Your show starts in ten minutes and I don't want that knucklehead Mikey stealing my seat." 
Leo, out of his daze, said okay and they went home.
(Don't worry guys. It gets better. I promise.)

I know this one is dramatic but I promise it will get better. (In my opinion.)
I hope you TMNT fans can like this character as you get to know her!  I love this new character. I hope you can bond with her as much as I do as I mix her in to this whole story!
