The Story of Lakai

Ch 9: Pizza Night and Casey Jones

Just as Mikey promised, he called Casey to order some pizza. 
Kai had already woken up and was still trying to adjust to her crutches.
She hated the feeling of the cast already but Splinter said she would only need to wear it for another week. 
She sniffed the air and noticed a new presence.  Then a savory smell drifted into the air. "What's his name again?" She asked to Mikey who was watching TV. 
"Casey" he called back.
She limped over to him and sat down.
"He is about to turn the corner." 
Mikey stopped and stared at her. "Woah Kai!  Do you have some kind of supper smell?" 
She grinned, "Something like that." 
Just then Casey's head popped in around the corner.  "Pizza's here!" He called. 
He looked Kai, "Whoah!  Raph, you said she was cool but, she looks awesome!  Not like you slimy turtles!" He teased.
Raph caught him in a light choke hold and ruffled his hair. 
"Aww Raph you think I'm cool?" She smiled as she teased. 
Raph rolled his eyes, to show he was clearly vexed. 
"Anyway." Casey choked, "Kai, I heard you have never tried pizza."
Kai turned and nodded, "I guess that's a sin in this house." she said. 
Mikey nodded.
"Well anyway, I bought pizza from the best pizzeria in New York for this special occasion!  I ordered some of their best specialties!" Casey held out four delicious scented boxes of pizza.  Leo helped a great full Kai from her seat (where Splinter told her to stay for the rest of the day to her distain.) 
She grabbed her crutches and went over to help Mikey set the table.
Even though her affliction limited her movement, she still persisted in helping her new family around the house.  After the table was set, Casey opened the boxes to reveal the hot, steamy discs of melted cheese and warm bread.  They divided the pieces amongst themselves. 
They all looked toward Lakai as she blew on the first slice. 
She looked around awkwardly as the boys stared at her. 
April had arrived and was sitting by her. "Don't worry, this happens a lot." 
Kai nodded slowly and took her first bite.  The flavors mixed together easily in her mouth.  Mikey smiled, his mouth wide open with anticipation.  Kai's head fell back slightly as she chuckled, "That's good." She said covering her mouth.
Everyone cheered and began to eat. 
A cheery disposition filled the room as the group told stories.  Everyone laughed when Casey told them how he fell on the ice and knocked down his coach. 
After everyone had their fill, Leo turned to Kai, "We have a surprise for you after dinner." He smiled as everyone secretly remembered her new room.
Kai looked around, "Oh please guys, you all have done more than enough for me.  I could not ask for anything else." 
"Except a new room." Raph whispered in Casey's ear.
