The Story of Lakai

Chapter 11: Kai's Nightmare

That night Kai had her first dream in a long time.
It was of her wolf family. How they had become mutants.
She was just a pup back then.
Her pack was tranquilized as they were passing through New York by a group of scientists.
A strange man had given each of them a shot. She remembered yelping for her worried mother as the men restrained her.
They injected the glowing substance slowly through her veins.
As she was returned to her mother she felt somewhat different.
Over the next few days they were given small injections of the liquid.
Her mind became sharper and her way of feeling emotions evolved.
Finally something huge happened.
Their bodies began to change, their legs straitened, bones shifted and mended.
She had never felt so much pain in her life. Eventually her pack passed out from distress. When Kai awoke she felt like she was thrown into a different body. She felt so out of place in her new humanoid figure.
The pack had eventually begun to understand the languages of the men and even started speaking as the scientists examined them. Eventually her pack adjusted to their new forms, they became used to standing on their legs and using their new hand like paws. They never wanted to escape due to their new appearance.
Everything was going "fine" until they were sent to a new "home".
Suddenly flashbacks of blood and screaming filled her dream.
The new man appeared in her mind.
Images of her father being beaten.
Herself being kicked when she went out of line. Bones broken, endless hours fighting, excruciating pain, and constant training flashed in her dreams.

Kai lurched up from her resting place.
Her foot banged against the wall.
She hissed as she grabbed her bad foot and rubbed it. She turned on the light.
Her ears dropped down and she whimpered silently.
She didn't like the past.
She also didn't like seeing her vivid memories play back in her dreams.
Kai refused to go back to sleep. She looked down at the cans of paint.
For the next few hours she painted her walls. Using the different colors to create a masterpiece. She needed to get it off her mind. After she was finished she collapsed onto her bed. She couldn't fight the urge to sleep any longer.
She dreamt again, this time it was about the turtles and Splinter.
The man had gotten to them.
He locked them up in cages.  He tried to change them like he did to her family. When they refused to follow him, the man slaughtered them slowly one by one.
Kai tried to save them but she was too late.
The man suddenly lunged towards her.
Kai fought back, dodging his blows.
She used her neko te claws to fend off his blades but she was overpowered quickly. He grabbed her neck and slammed her to the ground.
He held her down.
She screamed and struggled in protest.
"You have failed me again Lakai. You will always be a failure to me. I might as well end your pathetic life."
He razed his blades and rammed them into her unprotected chest.
"Nooo!" Kai screamed again as she awoke.
Leo and Donnie were holding her down.  Their eyes were wide.
She was breathing heavily. Her body shook as they slowly released her. Kai curled up in fetal position and covered her face.
"I am so sorry." She whimpered.
