Day 4
I shot out of my bed because of the excruciating pain I felt within the left part of my stomach. I drenched in a cold sweat and I had a terrible head ache. I rubbed my stomach, trying to see if the pain would go away, just to find that the left side was swollen. I groaned in pain and looked up to see that it was four in the morning. I still had two hours until school started.
I gripped on the edge of bed tightly and hoisted myself slowly out of my bed. It took a lot of energy to get up and I had to double over to catch my breath and from the pain I was feeling. After a few minutes I was able to stand upright and make my way slowly to the door, gripping my stomach the entire way.
I gripped onto the rails that were outside my door, we installed rails to the walls so that I would have an easier time getting around, and slowly made my way to my mom’s room. I opened the door a quietly as possible and crawled into the bed with her. I know what you’re thinking, what sixteen year old boy lies in bed with their mothers? The one that is dying and needs his mother during this tough time.
My mom rolled over few minutes later and smacked me in the face causing me to grown a little too loud. Her eyes shot open and she reached over and turned on her lamp. “I’m so sorry sweetie, I didn’t mean to hit you. How long have you been here?”
I shrugged. “Only…a few…minutes.” I said still a little out of breath from the pain in my stomach.
She frowned in worry at me and reached up to feel my forehead. “You feel quite warm, are you feeling ok?”
I shook my head. “The…left side…of my stomach…hurts.” I breathed out.
She reached down and pressed her fingers to the left side of my stomach. I winced when her fingers pressed in a bit, causing her to frown. “Feels like this side is a bit swollen and I assume you are feeling some pain there?” I nodded my head and she sighed and got up. “Wait right here and I’ll go get you something to relieve you from the pain.”
It only took her a few minutes and she came back with small bottled of pills. “This is called Vicodin, you know what that is right?” I rolled my eyes at her, but nodded. “This should get rid of the pain you are feeling. I want you to take this bottle with you. You need to take this every eight hours or if the pain begins to be too much. I’m going to trust you to not abuse this, ok?” Again, I nodded my head. “Now you are covered in sweat, why don’t you go get in a hot bath. That will also allow the Vicodin to kick in.”
I got up slowly from the bed and made my way to my restroom, taking the pills with me. I waited ‘til the water was the right temperature and slid into the tub. I sighed in relief when the hot water relieved my muscles and took away some of the pain I was feeling. I let my mind wander as I began to relax.
