I live in a world that is much different than yours. No, I am not some godly figure or alien being. I can assure you that I am quite human. I just have a gift that very few have. It runs in my family and has been in it for many generations.

You know that scar on my hand, the one that covers my entire left palm? It’s the one that goes from the base of my thumb to the base of my pinkie? I didn’t get it from some accident and I don’t really think you can even call it a scar. I was born with the mark.

The gift is that my mark can glows when I am within the presence of my soul mate. As long as I am with my soul mate, my hand will glow.

And lately the mark has been burning and itching. I asked my parents what it meant and at first all they could do was smile at me. After a while they finally told me what was going on.

My soul mate was near.

I don’t know how I feel about my soul mate being near yet. For one, I’m only sixteen, about to turn seventeen. I am quite young to be finding out who I am going to spend the rest of my life with.

Second, I don’t know what this person will look like. They could be male, female or transgender, and they can range in age from an infant to a ninety year old. The person could be fat, thin, tall, short, nice, or an arsehole. I don’t get a choice in who my soul mate will be, that is all up to fate.

Thirdly, I’m just scared. What if this person doesn’t like me? Then they are just going to be stuck with me, someone that they don’t even like for the rest of their lie. I by far not am not what you would consider attractive. I’m too far on the short side, around five foot six to be exact, way too short for a guy of my age. My stomach is nowhere near on the flat side, I wouldn’t say I am fat, but I do have a bit of a stomach. My hair is a floppy mess and is in a bad need of a new dye job. Last but not least is I would probably score a zero in the muscle department. Probably the only thing I like about myself is my eyes.

And lastly, there is always the chance that whoever my soul mate is either doesn’t have the mark and therefore would just think I’m a freak and would want nothing to do with me or if he does have the mark, I could not be their soul mate.

I was interrupted out of my thoughts by a searing pain in my palm. I cussed silently under my breath and gripped my hand tightly. I muttered a low shit out as I saw that the mark was glowing. I quickly reached into my bag and put on the gloves I always kept with me in case this happens. Luckily I got the gloves on before anyone could notice the glow.

I looked up in time to hear what the teacher was saying. “Today class, we are lucky to have a new student joining us.” She walked over to the door and motioned forever was on the other side to come in. “His name is Liam Payne and I want all of you to make him feel very welcomed. You can go take a seat next to Mr. Horan over there.”

I took a long look at this Liam guy and I immediately knew it was him. He is the reason that my palm is glowing, he has to be my soul mate. And I am so relieved too. The boy is absolutely stunning. He had these delicious bulging muscles and had a tattoo of five arrows going up arm. His brown hair was soft and styled up into a quiff that was buzzed on the side. But his eyes were the best part. They were a lovely rich brown and looking into them, I could tell that they hold a million secrets.

He smiled as he sat down beside me that was until he saw my glove covered hands. He eyed them for a minute before speaking up. “Don’t you think it’s a bit warm for gloves? It’s like eighty degrees out.” He said with a smirk.

I scratched the back of my neck awkwardly. “M-my hands w-were cold.” I stuttered out stupidly.

He laughed at me and stuck out his hand for me to shake. My eyes widened in shock when I realized that he is wearing gloves as well. “Well, I’m Liam as you already know.”

I reached for his hand slowly. “N-Niall.”

I went to remove my hand from his, but he refused to let go. In fact, he pulled me closer to him until my ear was right at his mouth. “Meet me in the restroom after class.” He whispered to me.

I gulped and nodded slowly.

This was going to be one long class period.
