I kissed him. Then he said "Oh right, I asked about Lukas."
"Is he okay?" I asked pulling away.
"He's fine. Something in his body didn't react well to the chemo therapy, so they had to do surgery on him. Then in a couple days, they're gonna try the chemo again."
"Can I see him?"
"Yeah, lets go."
We took the elevator to the 2nd floor. His door was open, so we went in quietly. I pulled up a chair beside him. He was sleeping, so I only placed his hand in mine to give him comfort.
After about ten minutes he woke up.
"Hey Luke." I ran my hands through his hair and smiled.
"Raelynn? What-what happened to your head?" Then he looked down at my arm.
"And your wrist?"
"Oh um... I'll tell you about that later. Right now I want you to tell me about what happened in chemo."
"Oh, well I don't really know for sure... the nurses told me after. They said I started having a kind of seizure while I was unconscious, then they said my heart almost stopped, and a bunch of other stuff I didn't really hear."
"Aw, what did they remove in surgery?" I asked.
"Something in my stomach...? Some long word I'd never heard of."
We talked for a long time. It felt good to take my mind off all of this craziness.
"Are you gonna tell me what happened to you today?" He asked.
"Oh right... well um, Sean came by. I didn't text him so I didn't know he was gonna come by. We were talking, and everything was going okay. Then the hospital called about you, and I went to answer my phone, but Sean started freaking out, saying I couldn't answer it. He lost it, broke my wrist, and gave me a concussion." I finished.
I felt the bruise on my head and winced. He felt it too, and I placed my hand on top of his.
"I'm sorry I wasn't there." He said, disappointed in himself.
"Oh uh, Kieran came do my rescue. He helped me. He was there when I woke up."
"Thanks man." He said to Kieran.
Kieran smiled.
"Just your wrist and head right?" He asked, curiously.
"As far as I know yes. I will let you know if anything goes wrong though. And I'm coming to your next chemo session!" I said assertively.
"I appreciate that. Now go home and rest. Ice your head, and make sure you keep that wrist elevated."
"Thank you." I said, and kissed him on the head.
