Getting a witty Skeleton as your husband was weird. But to Valkyire, it was the best gift she could have gotten in the world and wouldn't trade anything for it.

"Valkyrie. Does my tie look okay? I want to look smart at the party tonight." Skulduggery's velvety voice was heard from the upper floors.

"I think you look great, honey." She replied, not looking up once as she was engrossed in her book.

"But you haven't looked at me yet. And I could have looked horrible." Skulduggery had begun descending the wooden spiralled staircase. Ever since Valkyrie had turned the rightful age of eighteen, she was given total ownership of Gordon's mansion. There was enough money in her inheritance to last her comfortably till her retirement.

Valkyrie shot Skulduggery a smile as she placed her book by the coffee table beside her. "You always look great. You don't need me to tell you that. Besides. Isn't this a reunion with Ghastly and the rest of the Dead Men? What was it to celebrate again? I can't remember."

"Yes. It's the one where we celebrate the forming of the Dead Men 200 years ago. Are you sure you'll be fine alone? I don't like it when you're all alone at home." Skulduggery said with a hint of worry in his voice.

"Yes Skul. I'll be fine. You go and have a good time with your old friends. Catch up on what you've been missing. I'll be fine, Skul." She replied, placing a kiss on his forehead. "Besides. I have Xena here to keep me company."

"But I still don't like it. What if you get hurt? Are you absolutely sure you won't change your mind about attending the event? I'm sure Ghastly and the rest will be thrilled by your presence."

"Skul. I'll be fine. I was never a Dead Men in the first place. You were. So you should go. Go and have fun. After all, you deserve it."

"You have always been part of the Dead Men, Val. Even if you had joined in at a later time. To me you are and will forever be part of our group." Xena barked in approval.

Valkyrie nodded and got up. She hugged Skulduggery and he returned the favour. "Thank you, Skul. I don't know what I would have done without you in my life to be there for me. You've sacrificed so much for me. Now go. Consider this my sacrifice to you." Xena barked in approval once more.

"She sounds like she's trying to get rid of me." Skulduggery accused as he stared at Xena, Valkyrie's female German Shepherd who was prancing around the carpet.

"She's probably hungry. It is almost her dinnertime." She said, raising an amused eyebrow at him. Skulduggery shuddered. "That is beyond terrifying."

"Go." She pointed at the door and Skulduggery sighs. He tipped his fedora and adjusted his tie one more time before putting a hand on the doorknob. He turns back, "I'll see you later, Val. I love you."

"Love you too."

And with that, he walked out, closing the door shut behind him.

Meanwhile at the reunion...

Skulduggery parked the Bently by the curb and entered the Sanctuary. He used the usual passage that was housed as a wax museum.

Two white Cleavers stood at attention. They recognized Skulduggery and let him through. Skulduggery advanced forward until he heard laughter.

He walked in just in time to see Ghastly kissing Tanith. There were people cheering and clapping.

Skulduggery cleared his throat and Ghastly blushed. "Did I miss something?"

"Nope. You're just in time Skul."

"It's good to see you again, Ghastly."

"As to you."

"So. How's life as a Grand Mage doing to you?"

Ghastly scoffed. "It's like the Academy all over again. Endless piles of paperwork and never-ending sleepless nights."

"The people of Roarhaven do depend on you, Grand Mage Bespoke." Skulduggery joked.

"Oh God, don't do that. I get a headache every time someone says it. I don't know why, I just do."

Dexter Vex, Erskine Ravel and Saracen Rue approached them.

"Skul! My man! How are things with you and Valkyrie? Congrats on that marriage of yours. She's a lucky one." Erskine Ravel said.

"Good. Good. We live a happy life together. Thank you for asking." He looked around to find Ghastly missing.

Suddenly, a familiar voice blared from the speakers. "Skul. My man. You have been part of the Dead Men for over 200 years. It is an honour and a privilege to be working with you and to call you my friend. But sadly, there were those who had died during the war against Malevolent. And we will drink to them tonight. As fallen friends and comrades. To our fallen kin!" He raised his wine glass and everyone followed his actions.

"To our fallen kin." They repeated and drank to that.

"That was very touching. Thank you Ghastly. Your mother would have been so proud with your accomplishments."

"Thank you. I do wish Hopeless was here. He would have enjoyed this very much."

"To Hopeless then." Skulduggery raised his own wine glass. "To Hopeless." They sang and drank.

"Where is Anton?" Skulduggery finally asked, noting his absence. "Poor Anton got stuck in his Midnight hotel. He says he's currently stuck somewhere in the middle of Antarctica. Couldn't make it. But he told me to send you his best regards."

And the night went on like this. With chatter, laughter and a cheerful atmosphere. One Skulduggery could certainly not forget.
