i'm just a kid and life is a nightmare
Monday came quicker than expected for Alexa. Slight anticipation but mostly fear made her promptly get up out of bed for her first day. Tripping over the duvet of her bed, she grumbled at her own clumsiness. She picked a strappy crop top with high waisted mom jeans and a black rain jacket for the day, finding that she was slowly getting used to the dull weather of Forks already.
"God, you can hear you coming from a mile away in those shoes Lex seriously, what is the need for them?" Alexa smiled as she heard her brother groan from the bottom of the stairs.
"Gotta make an impression Gabey!" she shouted down, smirking at her black platform boots.
Ten minutes later she was still waiting on Gabe to leave the house. Finding the annoyance of her brother profoundly amusing, Alexa honked the horn loudly, trying to get her idiotic brother into the car.
"Gabe if I wanna make Starbucks before school you better hurry the hell up, or these boots are going up your ass!" Alexa was nothing with her grande Chai Tea Latte in the morning.
"Remind me again why you wanted me to drive you?" Gabe was curious of his sister's sudden change in attitude, usually she was outgoing and independent. She was always the first to make friends, and kind to everyone she met. She had an infectious energy that everyone seemed to love. There were few who did not like Alexa Ramona, that was for sure.
"Because dear brother, these boots weren't made for buses and neither was I." Gabe simply stared at her knowingly.
"Fine, I was nervous okay! What if people don't like me?" Alexa was the most liked person in school back in LA but she feared things wouldn't be the same here. She's different — not your typical Washington girl. Her style is edgey and her tanned skin is more La Push native than Forks, giving people lots of reason to stare.
"They're gonna love you because your you Lex, you light up a room the minute you go in it." Gabe had no doubt that his sister would be the centre of attention when she arrived, and would find it very hard to believe if she hadn't made a friend by the end of the first day. He knew his baby sister inside out.
Soon enough the Ramona siblings arrived at Forks High School. Giving her brother a kiss on the cheek, Alexa stepped out of the car and walked towards her new life.
"You can do this. You have no reason to be scared, they might not even notice you." Alexa attempted to reassure herself.
After walking up the steps, Alexa opened the doors to the main corridor seeing only teenagers. Lots and lots of teenager all silent, and staring right at her.
Taking a deep breath and keeping her head high, she walked through the space that had been provided by the people whose eyes raked her every move. Each step felt like it was pounding on the floor as she walked past her new classmates. Alexa knew she was a confident girl but in this moment, all she wanted to do was run back out the doors she had just entered through.
