Shiori was different from everyone else in her high school. It wasn’t just her strange features that made her different. It was her. She was different…because she wasn’t human. You're probably wondering what’s going on here, aren't you?
Let’s start with why normal people hate Shiori. One of the many reasons why they hate her is because of what she looks like. No, she doesn’t look hideous, in fact, it’s the opposite. She’s very beautiful but no one can see that. They are too scared of her abnormal features and to be honest, who wouldn’t be? With silky, snow white hair that reached to the back of her knees and mysterious, blood, red eyes that seemed to gaze into the very depths of a person’s soul, people were bound to be wary of Shiori.
Normal people tended not to have such features. You would expect an albino rabbit or cat but not an albino person. It was really rare in Japan. She was labelled as the 'albino freak' at her high school. Her whole family were albinos too but no one dared to say anything to them because her family could silence them with one bone chilling glare, the famous Namikaze glare. Sadly, Shiori could never master that glare, she was too kind. She believed that karma would come for her tormentors but so far, it hadn't.
Another reason why people hate Shiori so much is because of her family. The head teacher couldn’t expel her or anything because her family was powerful and if he did, he would be in a lot of trouble. Everyone was scared of her family. The Namikazes were the most powerful family in the world and therefore, the most feared. If someone dared to speak badly or go against her family, they were never heard of again and this terrified people, why wouldn’t it? No one was stupid or brave enough to cross her family anymore. So instead of targeting her family, people just targeted Shiori, the weakest link in the Namikaze family.
You would expect a normal family to be loving and kind to one another but Shiori’s family was the exact opposite. No one in her family cared about her, not even her parents. Her whole family ignored her; they never interacted with her unless they had too. She was the odd one in her family, the weakest link, the mistake, but her family tolerated her because she was a Namikaze and they couldn't kill one of the own.
Her family consisted of her parents, her three younger sisters and two younger brothers, her two older brothers and her older sister, her grandparents and great grandparents and her dozens of aunts and uncles as well as their dozens of kids. She had a big family and they were known worldwide because of the power and influence they had. Shiori had relatives in nearly every country in the world. That was just how big her family was. They were also the richest family in the world so no one could actually deny them anything. Her family owned most of the biggest companies all over the world and some of her relatives were the leaders of their countries.
Her family was cold and unforgiving unlike her. She really was the odd one in her family. Even her younger siblings were colder than her!
Shiori was only fifteen and her life was a nightmare. She had the scariest family ever and people hated her. They knew that she was different from her family. She showed emotion unlike her family and when she was hurt, it usually showed. People harmed her because they couldn't do anything to her family, they vented out their frustrations of her family on her. Her schoolmates would nearly always organise an attack on her after school. They would gang up on her and beat her up and once they'd finished, they would threaten her to keep it from her family. Not that it mattered because her family wouldn't have cared. Shiori could remember dragging herself home after being beaten, she remembered how no one helped her and she had to bandage herself up using the supplies she bought from the small allowance her parents grudgingly gave her. She could remember curling up into a ball under her duvet and crying herself to sleep after she had patched herself up. No one helped her. No one cared. She was all alone.
All the teachers turned a blind eye to Shiori’s torment, they pretended not to notice when she was continuously tripped up in class and beaten up after school. They pretended not to notice when she was called horrible names and told to die. They pretended not to notice when she would silently cry in the corridors or when she lay unconscious in the school grounds with her blood staining the floor.
Shiori desperately wanted her family to love her because no matter what they did to her, she loved them. It was pathetic but true. She just couldn't bring herself to hate them. Shiori really wanted to be accepted at school too. She wanted friends she could trust and she didn't want to continuously be paranoid of people hurting her. And something she had always longed for was her own boyfriend or someone who loved her and would spend his life with her. Someone who was her soul mate, Shiori had read about soul mates in werewolf books and the idea of having someone out there that could love her no matter what, fascinated her.
Shiori wanted love and acceptance. That wasn't too much to ask for...was it? Unfortunately if you are a demon, then yes, it is too much to ask for. This is A Demon’s Worst Nightmare.
