Chapter 10
Shiori rubbed her eyes tiredly as she woke up. She didn’t get a good night’s sleep because of the nightmare she had last night. It was strange. She was in a dark room and all she could see was a pair of glowing, golden eyes that glared at her. After that she had been falling. She didn’t know how but she was falling and she couldn’t stop. The faces of her family and new friends flashed through the air but they were all dead.
She finally landed in a pit that was lit dimly with green lanterns. Raiden was there…with Onigumo. He was chained to a cross in the middle of the room and it looked like Onigumo was sacrificing him to someone…but who? The nightmare abruptly ended with Shiori screaming as Onigumo held up a jewelled sword, ready to plunge it into Raiden.
Shiori laughed nervously. That wasn’t going to happen. It was just a nightmare. Shiori stood up and made her bed. She got ready for school but she had a feeling that something was going to happen, something bad.
She picked her bag up after brushing her long, white hair and ran downstairs.
“Good morning Shiori!” Shiori’s dad, Daichi, looked up from the newspaper he was reading and smiled at her.
She returned his smile distractedly.
“Is something wrong?” Daichi asked as he gazed at his daughter who kept spacing out and frowning randomly.
“Yes, I mean no! Nothing’s wrong, everything’s fine! What makes you think anything’s wrong?” Shiori rubbed the back of her neck absentmindedly as she gave her dad a strained smile. He just raised an eyebrow at her response before going back to reading his newspaper.
Shiori poured herself some cereal and sat down at the table with her dad to eat. “So dad…what are you going to do today?”
“…I’m going to work…like I do every day apart from Sundays.” Daichi finally put the newspaper down and stared Shiori in the eye. “Alright, what’s wrong? You’re acting strange today.”
Shiori twiddled her fingers as she took a deep breath. “Well, I have a feeling that something bad is going to happen today and the nightmare I had last night doesn’t make things any better.”
Her father sighed before patting her hand comfortingly. “Nothing’s going to happen to you; we’ll make sure of it.” He smiled.
Shiori nodded unconvinced and quickly finished her cereal and washed the bowl at the sink. She dried her hands, picked up her bag and ran out of the kitchen, kissing her dad on the cheek as she ran out. “Bye dad!”
It’s not me I’m worried about…it’s you guys and my friends. I’m also worried about Raiden. What was that nightmare all about? I have a really bad feeling about today.
Shiori opened the door and glanced at the sky. It was dark, the sun was hiding behind dark clouds and the normally blue sky was a menacing grey colour. Shiori’s bad feeling intensified.
