Chapter 11

It was lunch and Shiori was sitting with Maya, Shana and Ayame. They had decided to eat inside since it was raining outside. Maya was talking about her upcoming birthday.

“So you guys are invited to the party and you can bring one other person with you!”

Shana and Ayame squealed then looked at Shiori who was gazing out of the window with a troubled expression.

“Hello, earth to Shiori!” Shana waved a hand in front of Shiori who blinked before looking at her sheepishly.

“Sorry, what were you saying?” The three girls sighed in unison.

“It’s Maya’s birthday in two weeks and you’re invited. You can bring Raiden with you.” Ayame explained and Shiori nodded before smiling.

“We’ll be there!”

The girls went back to their conversation whilst Shiori picked at her food. She had a chicken salad and a cookie but she didn’t feel very hungry. Raiden hadn’t come into school which was strange. Who misses their second day in a new school?

She felt really worried and couldn’t help but think of the nightmare she had last night. Could Onigumo have Raiden? Onigumo did say that he was after her and he probably wouldn’t stop until he achieved his goal. He would do anything to get her so she wouldn’t put it past him to do something to her friends and family just to lure her out.

She shook her head. No, she was just overthinking things. Shiori joined the conversation with her friends and pushed her fears to the back of her mind.

The bell rang, signalling the end of lunch.

“Bye Shiori, we’ll see you in last lesson.” Her friends waved before turning and going to their next lesson.

She sighed before standing up. She threw her lunch into the nearest bin and walked out of the cafeteria. Taking her timetable out of her bag, she scanned it and sighed. Her next lesson was history, another subject that she excelled in.

Shiori made her way to her history room and sat at her seat. It was the back seat next to the window, her favourite spot.

She took her books out of her bag and waited for the teacher to come.

The seat next to her was empty. Raiden should be sitting here, Shiori started to worry again. Something must have happened to him because he said that he would see her in school today. Shiori jumped slightly as the door banged open and her history teacher, Mr Anderson, walked in.

Some of the girls in her class started eyeing him. Mr Anderson was in his late twenties and wasn’t that bad to look at. She didn’t like him though because he was nasty to her. Besides, Raiden was a lot better. She blushed slightly. Raiden was so nice, dreamy, and hot, had gorgeous eyes and was really cute plus her family liked him which was no small feat.

Shiori gazed out of the window with a smile and thought about Raiden.

“Shiori, are you even listening?!” Mr Anderson shouted at her.

She looked at him in surprise. He normally never talked to her. In fact she couldn’t remember a time when he even addressed her. “Y-yes sir, I’m listening.”

“Ok then, since you were listening, you can come to the front and explain to everyone how Hitler came into power."

Shiori rolled her eyes. She knew this in primary school and they were only learning it now in year 10, pathetic. With a sigh, she dragged herself to the front of the class and started explaining the Rise of Hitler to her uninterested classmates. Why did sir pick her out when everyone else in the class was clearly not listening either? At least she knew this stuff so she didn’t embarrass herself.

“Yes that will do!” Mr Anderson cut her off short, clearly irritated. He must have been hoping to make her look like a fool. Shiori walked back to her seat smugly. Well, he failed. She wasn’t labelled as the smartest student in her school for nothing.

History ended, Shiori was now in her final lesson and there was only five minutes until the end of school for today. She drummed her fingers on the table impatiently. Four minutes and 53 seconds to go.

“Shiori, you’ve been really out of it today. What’s wrong?” Maya asked in concern.

Shiori smiled weakly. “I just have a really bad feeling today. I had a really disturbing nightmare last night and I can’t get it out of my head.” Maya nodded understandingly.

“Yes, I know how you feel. I had a weird dream last night and there was a guy with golden eyes in my dream. I’m sure I’ve never met him but he gives me the creeps. I’ve been on an edge all day. Ayame and Shana had similar dreams last night as well.” Maya frowned but shrugged it off. “Maybe it’s just a coincidence.”

Shiori stared at her friends. They had dreams with Onigumo in. This was clearly not a coincidence, it was a sign. Something was going to happen and Shiori knew for certain that it was not going to be good. Why did these things always happen to her? The bell rang and Shiori jumped to her feet. She had to make sure her family was alright. She shoved her books into her bag and ran out.

“I’ll see you tomorrow!” She shouted over her shoulder at her friends who looked at her in shock. She was gone as soon as the bell had finished ringing.

Shiori raced home and stood in front of her house. She wasn’t even tired thanks to her demon blood. Shiori gasped as she looked at the front door. It was hanging off by the hinges and it looked like someone broke it. Worriedly, Shiori went inside. There was blood everywhere and the house was a mess.

She called for her parents and siblings but there was no answer. Close to tears, Shiori searched the whole house for anyone and was disappointed when she found no one. She dejectedly walked back into the living room and plopped herself down on the leather sofa. She clutched her head in anguish. Where was her family?

Shiori looked up and narrowed her eyes when she spotted a note splattered with blood pinned to the wall.

She immediately stood up and ripped the note from the wall. She read it in silence.

Shiori Namikaze,

I have your family, your friends and your boyfriend. If you want to see them in one piece then I suggest you come to the Shadow organisation’s tower. I’m sure you’ll have no difficulty locating it since it’s the tallest building in the area.

For every hour you delay, the more time I have to torture someone so I think you should come quickly. This note was here since half two and you finish at half four so that’s already two hours gone. I think I’ll start with your oldest brother…

Onigumo

Shiori clutched the letter angrily. He had everyone she cared about! She had to go even if it was a trap. Shiori looked at the clock on the wall and gasped. It was almost half past five!

She looked at her concealment necklace. It would be faster is she was in her half demon state. She’d save her demon state for the fight ahead. Closing her eyes, she placed her hands over the beaded necklace.

I want to be a half demon!

She experienced a slight tingling sensation which faded quickly. Shiori touched the wolf ears on top of her head. It worked!

Shiori sniffed the note in her hand. The blood was Haru’s, her baby brother! Shiori growled angrily. How dare Onigumo hurt her youngest brother!

With a snarl, she smashed through the nearest window and leapt up onto the roof of her house. The window could be replaced but her loved ones could not. Shiori glanced around the city and instantly spotted the tall building. It was black and had tinted windows so that no one could see what was happening inside. Somewhere in that building was Onigumo with her precious people. Shiori’s eyes narrowed.

She ran on top of the houses in the direction of the Shadow organisation’s tower. Her speed had increased and if anyone looked up then all they would have seen was a black and white blur.

I’m coming for you Onigumo! You’ve messed with the wrong person. Going after me is one thing but hurting my precious people is another! I will kill you!
