23. Rescue mission (final chapter)

You were then awakened by a loud knocking on the door. Naruto got up to get it and turned and ran to me. "Come on we have to go back", he instructed while quickly getting changed. You followed his instructions and got changed into your ninja gear. "Go back where?", you asked, while running beside Naruto. "Back to the sand, the Kazekage has been captured".

(Y/n) felt her throat tighten, she ran alongside Naruto to the village gates. Several other shinobi stood there waiting. Naruto slowed down, but (Y/n) kept on running. She ran past the others and she kept on going. She would never stop, not until she knew that he was safe. She brought her hand up to the hourglass around her neck, gently stroking it. She felt the tears fill her eyes. She managed to hold them back, but it was only a matter of time before she would shatter.

Timeskip

Two days later (Y/n) arrived. Everyone was a long way behind her, she hadn't stopped running the entire time. (Y/n) ran up to the gates of the village, approaching the guards. They nodded at her and she ran through, all the way to the Kazekage's building. Once she was in she saw Temari crying in Gaara's office. You ran up behind her and engulfed her in a hug, she looked up and you wiped away the tears. "(Y-y/n) what are you doing here?", she questioned. I looked over at the empty Kazekage chair with sad eyes. She hugged me back and told me to go to the hospital first to go see Kankuro. When I got there he was laying on an examination bench, his body twitched in pain. Groans could be heard as his body tensed. I sat in a chair next to his bed and fell asleep, I was exhausted from running.

I was awoken by a familiar face. It was Naruto and the rest of team seven, I gave his a giant hug and cried into his shoulder. There was also an old woman there too. "Come on (Y/n) we are going to go and save Gaara". I leapt from my chair and followed them out the door. Unfortunately Temari was unable to come, although she had fought with all her power to do so. Naruto, Sakura, Sai, Kakashi, Lady Chiyo and I ran along the sand. It had been several hours of running when we sensed Gaara's chakra. It was faint but he was still alive, we sprinted toward it and that's when we met Guy's team. We ran together towards a large mountain, it's entrance was sealed. "Alright Guy, you and your team will go undo the seal and the rest of us will attack the enemy". You all nodded to you Sensei and waited for the barrier of the mountain's entrance to be released.

The barrier was released and Sakura punched through the large boulder blocking the entrance. The Boulder shattered and revealed a blonde man, sitting on top of the body of Gaara. His body lay limp on the ground, his chakra unsensible. I felt my heart crack right down the middle. Words wouldn't form, you muttered a bunch of silent gibberish. "Get off of him you bastard!", yelled Naruto. You felt your legs grow weak, your body was about to give up. Naruto lunged forward at the blonde, slicing at him with his kunai. Another figure stepped forward, man with a large body and strange hair (A/n: Sorry I don't really know to describe it). "That must be the nine tails, Deidara", said the large one. "Sure is, my man Sasori", replied the blonde. They were a team from the akatski, Deidara of the stone and Sasori of the sand. Naruto followed Deidara around the interior of the mountain. Deidara made a large clay bird and flew out of the entrance with Gaara's body. "Sakura, Lady Chiyo and (Y/n) take Sasori, me and Naruto have Deidara", ordered Kakashi. He looked back at you, seeing the sadness in your eyes. "(Y/n) come with us!". You nodded and followed the bird out of the mountain with the others.

You had been chasing Deidara for 15 minutes now. His bird was getting higher up, you would never let him get away. You managed to save yourself from the explosive clay spiders, birds and bats that were thrown at you. Deidara landed his bird in a tree and hid, you could sense his chakra and threw a light shuriken at him. It hit his arm, Naruto and Kakashi were further behind you. Both had gotten hit by Deidara's attacks, you wanted to stop to help them but you were told to continue the pursuit. Deidara ducked behind a tree before you could grab him with your shadow arm jutsu. He laughed and threw several detonating clay birds at me, I was able to dodge them all except one. It landed on a tree to the right of me and exploded, burning my arm. The skin was burnt and black, blood oozed from the burn. It was down my arm, dripping onto the ground. Deidara let out an insane laugh and kept saying 'Art is an explosion'. You growled and pulled the bladed fan from your kunai pouch. Your blood filled its lettering and it began to change. The long blades looked a lot sharper and deadlier, you charged at him. He was constantly using long range attacks so you knew his taijutsu wouldn't be the best. You sent your chakra through the blade, a clay bat flew at you. You sliced it in half and charged. You swung you fan at him, he was able to dodge a lot of them, except one. The fan upgraded mid fight and the knives grew longer, one sliced his cheek. "You can never kill me little girl, un, you out of chakra", he yelled. You glared at him, you felt the power surge through you, the dragon tattoos continued up your arms and all over your body. "I will kill you", you growled. You felt your body grow, larger and larger. Your skin turned red and scaly, your fingernails turned into claws. You were a dragon. Your large body was protected by a hard layer of skin and spikes. Deidara climbed onto hid bird and flew into the sky, throwing clay animals at you. They didn't even break the skin, you were unstoppable. You grabbed his bird and threw it to the ground, he fell to the ground. His body shook as he stared up at you, your breath was hot. Fire smoked from your mouth as you roared. Deidara was finished, I punched him, crushing him with my large fist. The fan was then pulled from me, it was on my chest, providing a sort of amour. I looked down and saw Sasori, he must've escaped from Sakura and lady Chiyo. You body shrunk to its original form, a smile appeared on Sasori's face. He was no longer in his human puppet. "What are you going to do now, little girl", he chuckled. You felt the anger boil with in you, a smile spread across your lips. "I don't need it".

Your body transformed again, but this time it was different. First your body was engulfed in a dark blue chakra, then you grew ears and then tails. You were going through your tailed beast transformation. It was finally complete, you were the seven tailed wolf. Your body towered over the hundreds of trees.You smashed Sasori into the ground, his puppet body was left in a pile of shattered wood. You released a loud howl and your body began to change back to it's original size. Once you had shrunk back down you completely ignored the other, you ran straight over to Gaara. His body was cold and limp, I felt the tears fall. I held Gaara close to me, crying into his chest."I'm sorry", you whimpered. "Gaara come back to me". "Please...". The other gathered around you, their shadows cast you in darkness. You felt alone again, you cried harder and louder. Some of the others were crying too, Sakura and Naruto were bawling their eyes out. Then you saw a blinding light, you looked down and realized that it was your locket. The one that Lady Yorukage had given you. You pulled it off of your neck and opened the locket, light blinded you. You dropped the locket and moved back, hearing a familiar voice. "Hello again my angel", it called. Your eyes widened, you thought that your heart had stopped. "G-Gomonshi?!". The light from the locket formed a small transparent boy. He smiled at you and knelt down next to you and Gaara. He looked down at the lifeless body of Gaara, his shirt soaked with (Y/n)'s tears. "I love you (Y/n), and I want you to be happy". He placed his hands on Gaara's chest and closed his eyes.

With Gaara
Gaara sat in the nothingness and cried. The first time in a while, now that he was older he kept his emotions bottled up, but now he couldn't hold them. The tears slipped from his aquamarine eyes, then a voice was heard. "So your the one she loves so much". Gaara turned his head and saw a young boy smiling at him. "W-who are you?", asked Gaara. The boy sat down beside him and stared into his eyes. "My name is Gomonshi Uchiha, don't forget it", he giggled. Gaara searched through his mind, where had he heard that name before? "Oh so your the one that (Y/n) was talking about". The boy nodded and placed a hand on Gaara's shoulder. "I wasn't able to keep her safe, so I want you too", he stated. Gaara looked down at his fidgeting hands. "But I can't, I'm dead". Gomonshi smiled and looked at Gaara, his eyes moved from Gaara's to his neck. The chakra charm was tied around it, the wolf howled silently from with in. "She loves you Gaara and because I can't be there, I want you to love her for me". Gaara stayed silent and held the chakra charm in the palm of his hand. "Please Gaara, promise me that you will love her for me". Gaara looked up at him, his eyes full of tears. "I promise that I will love (Y/n) until the very end", he assured. Gomonshi pulled Gaara into a warm embrace. "Protect my angel, until the day you die", he whispered.

With You
I watched as Gomonshi placed his transparent hands on Gaara's chest. What was he going to do? Then before I knew it I felt something. It was like some sort of drumming, I could hear it, I could feel it. Gomonshi pulled his hands away and looked up at me with a large smile. His body began to slowly disappear. "Take care, my angel". And with one last wave he was gone with the breeze. I wiped the tears from my face and looked down at Gaara, I rested my ear to his chest and I heard it again. This was the drumming I was hearing, it was Gaara's heart. I pulled away and saw Gaara staring up at me. His eyes filled with tears and mine continued to do so. We pulled together into a warm hug, I never wanted to leave him again. He sat up using the last of his strength and smiled. His hand rested on my cheek and he pulled me forward into a passionate kiss. My eyes closed and I kissed back, I was in heaven. He pulled back and stared into my (e/c) orbs. "For such a long time I had a wound that nothing could heal, an eternal pain which I thought I would never recover. The antidote was in front of me the entire time, I'm in love with you (Y/n) and I never want to leave you again". I wiped the tears from my eyes and pulled him into another kiss. This time he didn't pull away, he just pulled me into an embrace. He then whispered in my ear. "You are the one who healed the hole in my heart"...
