I didn't see Drew for the next few days. I did what I always did before that night. I would wake up, make breakfast (now with the help of Risley), and then I would go to the bakery (also with the help of Risley).
We had a lot of free time to get to know each other. It was nice to finally have the father figure that I always wanted in my life.
I got to hear the many stories of the ball at the palace and the fact that Diane never actually got to dance with the prince. She had danced with many other wealthy young men in the kingdom.
And I wasn't hounded with questions as to whether or not I was secretly meeting with Drew. Risley had talked to them the day after the ball and told them they could not continue to deny me the basic rights of a human. I agreed to keep cleaning and working in the bakery, though. They were things that kept me occupied on extremely boring and long days.
And since Drew hasn't been around the past few days, I thoroughly enjoyed having something to distract my mind from him.
Risley had also taken me to get a new bed. It was much softer and felt amazing to lay in. I had been able to fall asleep seconds after laying into it.
We also went clothes shopping. He helped me choose clothes that would fit me snugly yet they were loose enough to not be restricting. We had a lot of fun.
He had confronted Ivy and Diane and told them that even though I may not be blood, I was still his and Ivy's child and I deserved to be treated with respect.
I grew very fond of him as of lately. He was everything I had always wanted him to be as a father. I forgave him so easily. It was nice to have someone around that would teach me the basics of being a man. (I've never had that before and it was amazing now that I did.)
Like every other day, I was in the bakery preparing breads but today I was also baking some cookies. It just felt like a good day to bake some sweets.
"Hello Zayn."
I looked up from the counter and smiled at Teresa. "Hello, mama."
"Here's the finished bread Zayn."
I glanced back and smiled at Risley. "Thanks, dad."
He smiled at the both of us and walked back into the back of the bakery.
"So, he finally maned up and apologized?"
I smiled and nodded. "Yeah, he even got me some new clothes and a bed. He also told the wicked step-mother and daughter that they could not prevent me from talking to Drew." I frowned and glanced at the door of the bakery in pure sadness. "Though it does nothing to help me because Drew has been avoiding me since the night of the ball."
"Actually Z-" Teresa was cut off by someone.
"Zayn!"
My eyes widened when I saw Drew running into the bakery, panting.
I raised an eyebrow and gave him a glare. I was angry with him, I reminded myself.
"Zayn, I am so sorry. I have so many things to explain to you."
I scoffed and crossed my arms, turning around. "Yeah, and I had some things to explain to you too .... 4 days ago."
"Zayn please," his voice sounded urgent.
I sighed and sagged my shoulders. "Fine. Let us go and talk."
I went to walk around the counter but he was walking behind it and tugging my arm away from the front of the store, all while glancing back occasionally, almost like he was being followed. We got outside the back of the bakery.
"Okay wait, first of all, why are you dressed like royalty? Did you steal clothes because I swear if you di-" I was cut off.
He placed his hand over my mouth and continued to tug me away from the town, leading me down to the lake.
"Okay, I will answer any questions you have but first I need to tell you something."
He shuffled his feet and took a few steps towards the lake. I thought he was going to jump in but he didn't. Instead he turned back around, his hands locked together and a troubled look on his face.
"Okay, so uh, um. Wow, this is harder to say than I thought it would be," he mumbled. "Okay."
He breathed out deeply and looked up at me, eyes sincere. "I-I really like you, Zayn. And not the friendship like. I like you romantically, a real real lot. I want to court you. I want to grab your hand and never let go. And sometimes I really wanna push you into the closest wall and snog the life out of you."
His speaking got shaky, "Lately you are all thats been on my mind. I keep thinking of your eyes and how they sparkle when you speak of Teresa. Or when you bit your lip when you have no idea what to say. And when I see someone sweeping, I think of your hands wildly moving as you talk so excitedly. There are so many things that remind me of you. And when I saw my copy of Romeo and Juliet, I thought so much of you it hurt."
He took a deep breath and then whispered, "I think I am falling in love with you."
