The delicate sound of pacing footsteps and water filled his ears. And there was a smell of metal, oil and smoke. He could taste the bitter, copper like flavour of blood, and a strange memory entered his mind, a shadow, a noise, nothing more, but of course shadows were never to be taken lightly...

The doctor awoke tied to a chair, trying to remember how he got there.
He had the vague recollection of  a voice in the black behind then something slamming into his skull and finally darkness.

He let his eyes readjust to the gloomy atmosphere and noticed someone, hidden too well in the shadows to see any detail of them, pointing the sonic screwdriver; in what was a surprisingly threatening way at him. "Ah, good, your awake old man," the shadow drawled
"Um... yes, you wouldn't happen to want to let me go perhaps," at this there came a derisive laugh, "no, I thought not, look you can still get away with this, I know your trapped, I can help you,"
"I don't need your help. All I want is to know why your here, and... and... what the bloody hell this thing is." The shadow indicated slightly to the sonic.
"Oh, well, that... yes, to make it work you sort of press the button on the side there," he pointed and the 'phantom' pressed.

The noise of the sonic immediately filled the chamber, and the phantom dropped it in shock, stepping back, clearly scared. At this the Doctor pulled off the ropes, grabbed the sonic and began to run, without looking back.

Christine and Raoul walked, hand in hand down a cobblestone street. Christine was, although she would never say it out loud, enjoying herself immensely, she was also enjoying Raoul's company, he was sweet, polite and... amazing.
She was in love.
But despite all these happy feelings, guilt gnawed hungrily at the pit of her stomach. She had abandoned... him... she was a horrible person, who didn't deserve the wonderful evening she was having.
The two of them reached the opera house and stopped before the great double doors. "Thank you for tonight Raoul, I hope it's not the last we see of one another." At this he kissed her hand once more. "I can guarantee that." And with that sweet parting, he disappeared into the night...

Sorry our first confrontation with the phantom was a little pathetic, but I promise he will become way more awesome. I'm holding a slight competition to see if anyone can guess who or what he is, (Izzicle you already know) the winner will receive a special dedication in next chapter. :-)
