Roul walked down the dark street. The memory of Christine was playing back and forth across his mind, she was so beautiful, so funny, so kind, so good, she had always been, ever since they were children, though a lot had changed since then. But he felt she was hiding something, the way she had seemed so nervous to somethings, so afraid. Either way: many would say it was too soon, but he had never been one for long winded courtships, Christine made him happy, so he would invite her to be his wife.
There was a glimpse of movement from the corner of his eye. This was Paris, so it could be anyone from a shopper caught out late, a drunk or even a kid running home, but somehow it worried him. He turned, to see an empty, snow iced street, and nothing else. Nothing sinister, nothing frightening just a street.
Satisfied with this he turned again.
And that was when it pounced...Christine fled through the opera house, afraid of what she would find. She had been away for at least the last couple of hours, leaving him alone, and not exactly defenceless but without his eyes of the world above. And with this Doctor person on the prowl he was in greater danger than ever before.
She reached the false wall and was about to open the secret passage when it opened of it's own accord and the Doctor stepped out.
She squeaked in surprise and turned as if to flee but he caught her arm before she could get very far. "I'm assuming that because of your frightened reaction and your convenience in the area that you know something about the 'phantom'."
"I... I have... No idea what your... Talking about..." Her words came out in frightened sobs as though she knew the game was up. "P... Please don't hurt him, he hasn't done anything wrong!"
"Other than the murder of an innocent pearson." The Doctor, seeing her fear calmed his tone. "I don't want to hurt him, I want to help him, but the protection of the innocent comes first," at this Christine fell into loud and unladylike sobs. "Calm down please, your giving me a headache and I can't concentrate with a headache."the doctor snapped. Christine automatically stopped sobbing. "Thank you. Now miss Daie , why is the 'phantom' killing people?"
"I... I don't know. He won't tell me, but he's not evil! And he has reasons, I know it!"
"Well that's very little to go on, look, like I said, I help people, but your friend is dangerous," he stopped suddenly. Suddenly conscious of a pair of eyes watching them from the shadows. "What I...is it?" Christine stammered, unnerved by the Doctor's sudden silence, then a figure stepped out of the dark.
The Doctor had been expecting it to be the phantom. That would have been the obvious answer. But instead it was a young woman, who clearly thought she was more beautiful than she was and was plastered in enough makeup to make a clown look underdressed. Christine almost laughed, "madame Carlotta, you scared us." The woman neared the two figures, walking stiffly, like a puppet, her eyes glassy and pitch black. "Good." Hen she lunged, faster than humanely possible at Christine.Sorry it's taken so long for me to update, thanks for bearing with me so far. :)
