"WAKEY wakey!" mariah heard in her ear. her eyes slowly peeled open, only to shut milliseconds later due to the bright motel. to her annoyance, it looked like every curtain was opened. she grabbed the pillow from under her head and put it over her face.

it didnt take long for jeffrey to pull it away, along with her comforter. mariah shot up due to the colder air, blindly searching for her blanket.

"you've gotta get up, mar." the man told her, and she heard her missing blanket hit the floor. she opened her eyes again, letting them adjust to the light.

she yawned, using the band on her wrist to tie her hair back. she froze before getting up. the previous night's events came back to her before she could stop them. luckily jeffrey had trailed to the other side of the room, if he had been anywhere near her she would've screamed. mariah shuddered at the gory images that flashed in her mind, and she swore she could still hear the gun shot.

she didn't remember much upon getting back to the motel, just avoiding jeffrey's looks of sympathy. she fell asleep not long after.

he had his back turned to her now, throwing some things into his bag. mariah scurried to the bathroom, grabbing her duffel on the way.

the bags under her eyes could carry an average amount of groceries, she noted to herself in the mirror. she splashed some cold water on her face, getting rid of now two-day old mascara.

at this point, mariah was at a crossroad. there was a murderer just outside the door, but she didn't know if that fazed her as much as the average human. despite the fact she only met jeffrey a couple days ago, he didn't seem like the worst man in the world. hell, he saved her. his instincts were not to be dismissed.

but he definitely didn't hesitate to shoot her attacker. it's not like she didn't want the guy off her as soon as possible, but if jeffrey had just pulled his gun, the bastard probably would've ran away. he had to be good at negotiation anyway, if he stole cars for a living.

she tried to clear her mind while undressing, reaching to turn the shower knob to luke warm water. she knew jeffrey was ready to go, so she would make it quick. if she didn't change her mind about leaving with him, that is.
