"WHAT do you mean you don't have a spare tire?" jeffrey asked mariah, his hands in the air out of disbelief.

both of them were at her trunk. one was angrier than the other.

"my dad must've taken it, or something."

"or something? god mariah, keep track of your car once in a while, will ya?"

mariah crossed her arms and let a steady stream of air out of her nose. she couldn't deal with this right now. his antics. trailing towards the front of her car, she sat on the hood. she heard jeffrey rummage around through her belongings, looking for some kind of tool.

"you don't got shit back here." he sputtered, slamming the trunk angrily. she noticed how his gray t-shirt was already soaked with sweat, he must've taken his leather jacket off after the diner.

"sorry i didn't pack my car special for you before you stole it."

he made his way over to her, making eye contact and pointing in her face sternly. "shut up."

she chuckled, glancing at the open field to her left.

he crossed his arms. "what, now you're laughing? damn, girl. you're just full of emotions, aren't you?"

she took the band out of her hair, letting her dark locks wash over her shoulders. "i was only pissed at you because you made me significantly uncomfortable earlier." she copied his stance, a foot jutted out sassily for effect.

he'd be lying if he hadn't taken a second look.

"sorry, did i hurt your fragile frame, little girl?" he countered, bouncing back to his regular state.

"no, you bastard, i'm just tired of you putting me in these sketchy situations."

he stepped closer, a hand on her shoulder. "you're kidding, right?"

"no, i'm not fucking kidding!" she looked at him with wide eyes. "i'm not good under pressure like that! did you see the look on my face before i saw that cop earlier?"
