I grin as 5 Seconds of Summer unplug the cables from their respective instruments (other than Ashton, who busies himself instead with trying not to trip over the cables as Calum, Michael and Luke abandon them on the stage), before lugging them to the side of the stage, where they carefully lock them into their cases. A small crowd of people - predominantly teenage girls, unsurprisingly - already gathered there about five minutes ago, anticipating the end of the set. I'm still a little bit shocked at just how well everyone is reacting to the band, and how quickly news about them is spreading; I would never admit it to any of them, or Brandy, but I'm also a teeny bit jealous. I mean, I haven't seen Brandy in person properly before she came to stay with us, and now she's essentially gravitating towards the guys in every waking moment - which I guess I can understand. I mean, she's become good friend with all of them, and there's obviously the whole Calum Thing too. Plus, I'm at school most of the time, so I'm glad she has someone - or, rather, four someones - to spend time with.
However, I kind of want to spend time with them too. I haven't seen Calum in ages, and he's the equivalent of a brother to me. Of course, I don't mind Brandy or Kat being around them, it's just slightly annoying having swarms of girls constantly hovering around the guys before and after they perform. Still, I guess I can't really blame them - 5 Seconds of Summer are undeniably amazing in all areas; they're incredible performers, awesome musicians and, let's face it, they're pretty easy on the eye too.
I mean, not that I really notice that last one too much. I only have eyes for Tyler, especially after what happened here last week. I just get that general feeling, especially when I have Brandy standing next to me wittering on about how 'hot' Calum is, and how she 'so wouldn't mind' if he took his top of onstage (which, by the way, is something I could quite happily go without hearing). Just because I accept their mutual feelings towards each other does not mean that I am comfortable with it all just yet. Well. I assume the feelings are mutual, but I guess I'm going to have to drop a couple of hints just so Calum is clear.
Before I can react, Brandy is frogmarching me towards the four guys, who all appear slightly overwhelmed by the amount of attention they're getting, although not as overwhelmed as I expect them to be; I suspect they must have had their fair share of attention back in Australia too. Some girl shrieks, "Oh my God, Cooper is so hot". It takes me a moment to figure out that by 'Cooper' she means Calum, but Brandy's head has already jerked towards the girl, who she is currently having a staring competition with. Actually, I'm pretty sure I hear her growl at the girl - if it were me on the receiving end of that, I would probably look up the phone number for the nearest asylum (not that there are many asylums nearby. That I know of), but evidently this girl possesses more common sense than I do, as she backs down and retreats from the crowd with a couple of other girls, who I guess are her friends. They don't look too happy about being forcibly extracted from the gaggle of girls encircling the band, but one look at Brandy sends them charging away with their friend.
That is a wise decision, I think as Kat appears next to me with Calum, who taps Brandy's shoulder. She tenses, and I'm worried she might growl at him, but the second she sees his face, her own lights up and she throws her arms around him. Kat and I share a look which, with subtitles, might say something like 'It's so sweet I might throw up'. We're on the same page for PDA, luckily.
"Calum!" Brandy beams once she pulls away from him.
Calum mirrors her smile with one of his own. "Hey!" he glances to Kat and I, both standing to the side with our arms folded across our chests, eyebrows raised at the pair of them. "Um, do you guys wanna come back to, like, hang with us in a minute?"
Kat shrugs coolly as if to say 'I'm up for it if you are' and Brandy peers at me expectantly, eyes wide like a puppy. I roll my eyes. "We'll come on one condition," I offer, and Calum nods eagerly. "Never say 'hang' again." Seriously, it just sounds weird coming from him.
