“What happened last night?!” Jared said in a loud voice. We were currently eating our breakfast when he asked. I ignored him and continued eating. I didn’t want to talk about it. Not yet. I felt that there’s something that I need to find out. Something’s missing in this puzzle. And I need to find out what that is.

“What happened last night, Samantha?” Aida asked. She looked at me, worried. She treated my wounds last night while Jared kept nagging me about what happened. Still, I didn’t uttered a word about it. I just looked down to my plate, staring at my food.

            “Nothing.” I whispered silently.

“Nothing? You were on the ground, bleeding! While your room was a mess!” Jared yelled at me. I have never seen him get mad at me like this before. He must’ve been really worried.

“Look, I don’t want to talk about it, okay?” I said then stood up and left the room. I went straightly to the porch where I sat down on one of the chairs and stared at the lake. I sighed silently as I heard Jared stormed out of the house.

“Samantha Louise Scott!” He yelled at me. I looked at him for a moment then went back to staring at the lake. I heard him sigh then sat down beside me. We were silent for a while until he asked again in a lower tone. “Sam, what really happened last night?”

            Silence.

“If you won’t tell me, I’ll mention this to your father.” He said. I looked at him in shock. Is he threatening me? There’s no way he’ll tell my father. What if he did? I couldn’t let my father know about this. He already had a lot to think about and I don’t want this incident to add up to his worries.

“Don’t you dare.” I said, glaring at him.

“So tell me.” He said. I sighed in defeat.

“An angel tried to kill me.” I said in not so many words. He was silent for a while, probably processing the words I’ve just said.

            “An angel? Why?” he asked.

            “I don’t know.” I shrugged.

“That’s peculiar. I’ve heard nothing about angels suddenly killing demons, unless of course if there’s a battle. They never started a fight, unless… they know something.”

“What do you mean?” I asked, confused.

“Maybe, just maybe, they know something about you, being the heir to the leader of our kind. Maybe they want to kill you because they know you’ll be the next one to lead us.” He said.

“How would they know that? No one except us knows about that.” I asked.

“I don’t know. All we know is that you’re in danger now.” He said in conclusion.

“Jared,” I said softly. “Don’t tell this to my father, okay?”

“Why wouldn’t you want your father to know about this? Your life is at stake.” He asked.

“I don’t want him to know about this yet. I need to find out something first.” I said to him.

            “What?”
