ELEVEN
The entire room was filled with people in their elegant attires. They were all wearing their masks, which confused me to who they were. At the center of the room was a huge dance floor filled with couples, or so they seemed, dancing. At the right side was a long table full of food where some guests stood as they watched the others dance. I looked around to see if Jared was already here but I couldn’t find him.
I made my way towards the end of the room where I met my father, sitting in a line of chairs on an elevated floor with the other members of the Council. My father sat at the center, emphasizing his authority as the Head. I walked in front of him, although I didn’t came up beside him, just enough for him to notice me.
“Samantha, there you are.” My father smiled at me then stood and walked towards me. “My, you look lovely tonight.”
“Thanks, dad,” I said to him.
He took both of my hands and squeezed it tightly. Sensing my nervousness, he smiled at me gently. “Don’t be so nervous. Why don’t you enjoy yourself?”
“You know I’m not used to these kinds of events,” I told him as I looked down.
“Don’t worry, sweetheart. You’ll be fine,” he said to me then pushed me slightly towards the crowd. “Now, go find Jared and have fun.”
I sighed. I guess I have no choice. I walked towards the crowd and looked for Jared but still couldn’t find him. Where is he? I groaned softly then went towards the table where the punch bowl was placed. I grabbed a glass and poured punch in it. I drank all of it in one gulp then filled my glass once more. I must be so nervous.
“Easy with the punch now.” I heard a voice behind me. I turned around and saw a guy in his penguin suit. He was wearing a mask that covered his entire face that’s why I didn’t recognized him. He poured himself a glass of punch and stood beside me as he watched the others dance.
“I’m not accustomed to these things, you know,” he said as he drank some punch.
“Me too,” I answered softly.
“Well then, shall we make this night less boring?”
“How?” I groaned silently.
He grabbed the empty glass in my hand, placed it with his glass on top of the table, and stood in front of me. He held out his hand in front of me and said, “Would you like to dance?”
“Sure,” I said, accepting his hand. He led me towards the center and we both danced to the rhythm of the soft music. Suddenly, I heard the huge door opened and saw a man wearing an all-white suit paired with a white mask that covered the upper part of his face.
I entered the huge room and saw a lot of people… no… demons. I looked around to see if they got suspicious of me. Fortunately, they didn’t so I continued and walked inside. Across the room, I saw a line of demons, sitting. It’s easy to tell that they’re of great importance to their kind. They must be the group they call ‘The Council’. Pfft.
Among them, I saw the familiar man and woman, chatting with everyone else merrily. How come they could celebrate happily at this time? Have they forgotten the war we had that lasted for thousands of years? They acted as though they forgot whom they really are.
