My name is Zoe Nyx, and I go to Aeolus Academy. I'm short for a grade eight and have braces. I'm a pretty smart girl, and I have friends. I'm not an outcast but I consider myself one. I just don't like being the centre of attention. I've dated two boys since the beginning of the year and both of them were terrible kissers. Aren't all boys terrible kissers? Well, if there is a boy who isn't, I haven't met him.
The reason I don't like dating is that I witnessed the worst relationship in the school. Jake Thales was the bad boy of Aeolus Academy, and he had a million girls. He just had his run in with a really pretty girl and now they broke up. There had been a lot of crying and fighting between them. Typically not the type of relationship I want.
My friend Toni, well her cousin was one of the many girls who fell under Thales charm and like all of them he left her a long time ago. That terrible relationship took at least two terms.
Now I was writing exams and it was terribly boring. I was studying 24,7 and was talking to no one on Whatsapp. I hated this time of my life.***
Exams finally ended and my dad surprised me today. I came home to begin my three-week holiday. I was planning to just sit down and watch TV. Maybe even give love another chance. I was going to catch up on my chocolate and stalking boys on Instagram.
Then my dad came home with my friend Toni. We were having a sleepover now which is kind of weird. I mean there was absolutely no planning she just showed up and announced it.
Well, she is my friend, so I didn't expect anything less.
"I hate that Jake fellow." She said once again. Ever since that incident with her cousin she hated him. Honestly, I didn't see why she cared. He wasn't paying attention to us, so we were fine.
"I heard you still dating Michael?" She asked me. That name ripped me out of my thoughts.
"My gosh! How many times do I have to say this we're not dating!" I shouted. Really man come on!
"Okay okay I get it." She said, knowing she was annoying me.
Michael was my last boyfriend and the worst I had ever had. Ever since we broke up, he had been spreading rumours about us being together. Every week, a dozen or so people would come up to me and ask if it was true. I hated him more and more each passing day.
"Honey I'm home!" I heard my mom shout from the door.
We gathered by the dining room and exchanged stories about our day. Finally, my dad cleared his throat.
"Well I got a surprise. Since you've been having a hard time at school, your mother and I have made time to go to Durban." I gasped. "And I've spoken to your parents as well Toni. You're coming with us."
We both hugged and jumped up and down. My mom laughed at us. Maybe this was the start of a good holiday.
