Chapter 7
They clawed and scratches at each other, their acid like blood spilling on the ground and killing the plants it touched. I stayed back in order to not be touched by it, but while watching, I had begun to realize the strength of Kybe. He seemed stronger than all of them put together, making the fight almost frightening. I wasn't scared of him losing because I knew he couldn't. As the time went by, they finally began o slow and then stopped, huffing for air, exhausted.
"We give, Kybe, but this isn't the last you have seen us. You keep following your puppeteer, and you will surely kill yourself. Human, remember these human words that we tell you today. Do not trust him, because if you do, you will surely lose your life...painfully." the leader explained, then him and his group ran into the forest behind us with their goals dissipating. We stood in front of the power plant in silence for a few seconds before Kybe finally fell to his knees in exhaustion.
"Are you alright?" I asked, unsure of what to do now. He held up his hand and kept gasping for air until finally speaking.
"I'm fine, I just need some rest. There should be some food in the power plant, I smell it." he said, trembling as he stood and began to walk to the front doors.
I followed, keeping his slow pace as I stayed behind. I remembered every word that the leader said, and I would remember it until I can fully understand or know what Kybe really wants with me.
We entered the facility. It was dark with an old rust smell lingering in the air. Kybe leaned against the wall and slid to sit down. That was when I noticed the large gash in his stomach. One of the monsters must have caused it during the fight, somehow.
"How did you get that?" I asked, pointed at the open wound as he held his hand against it. Even if their blood was acidic, only their skin was tough enough to withstand it. He looked away and told me it was from the fight, but it shouldn't be anything to worry about. For me, it was enough to worry, and quickly thought of a quickly way to help. "Let me stitch it and I'll burn it closed."
"That could work, I've done it plenty of times." he leaned back, holding his breath, then let out a bit sigh. This is when he's finally fell asleep. I took this chance, and slowly explored the ruined facility, also looking for needle, threat, lighter, and maybe a candle. I was able to find a candle quickly. It was used long ago with webs covering it while the dried wax had touched the ground. I ripped the cancel off of the floor, and held it tightly in my hand in order to never lose it.
I walked further into the darkened power plant, hearing drops of leaking water as I go. I knew that if I were to turn on the plant, it would blow from the water, wherever it was. Of course, I finally found an office, luckily with it unlocked. I walked in and found a lighter on the dust covered table. I checked it to make sure it was full and sure enough, the flame grew brighter than. Any lighter I had before. It made me crave a cigarette more than anything too.
Thread and needle were found in the drawer that was broken open. The needle was a little dirty, but I could use the flame to clean it.
Making my way back to Kybe, I ran the words through my head over and over again, thinking of all the reasons of why Kybe could really be protecting me. Who was I to believe? The one who saved my life, or the ones that would prefer to eat me alive, piece by piece? It was a hard choice to tell the truth, but for right now, I couldn't trust any of them. Not even Kybe, no matter how much kindness he gives to me.
