Here is a story for @Mpandakitty. I hope you like it!! No super powers for reader in this story. They just didn't fit.
y/n - your name (you should know by now ;)
The sound of popcorn and cheers filled the air as I walked through the annual El Paso fair. Kids ran around, balloon strings tight in their hands. There were rides spread throughout the once empty park. I grinned as I saw cotton candy being hand spun down the way. Diego grabbed my wrist and pulled me over to one of the stands. It was the game where you got baseballs and threw them at empty milk cans stacked like a pyramid, 3 on the bottom, then 2 and 1. Diego was a pretty athletic kid and I knew he had a crush on me. He paid the patron and the man handed him 5 baseballs.
"Knock down 15 and you'll win a big prize," his deep voice sighed. Diego turned towards me and smirked.
"Watch this babe," he flirted and threw one of the baseballs. It hit the top can off and I couldn't help but smile. Diego was good looking, athletic and smart, but he wasn't for me. Another ball left his hand and hit the middle pin on the bottom row, knocking the whole stack over. Shoot. He is at 7 pins with 3 stacks to go. He turned to me, tossing the baseball up in his hand.
"You might as well pick out a prize because I'm gonna win it for you," he explained. I laughed and walked over to where the prizes were. There were lots of small ones, some medium ones, and only a handful of large prizes. I immediately fell in love with the big panda bear. It looked so soft and cuddly. The sound of cans being knocked over brought my attention back to my date. Another pile had been completely knocked over, putting Diego's pin count at 13. He only needed two more, so it was a given that he would get the large prize.
Sure enough, the last ball ran into the cans, knocking 4 over. Diego turned away from the counter and walked over to where I was standing with the man in charge. He sighed and approached the big prizes. My eyes never left the panda and Diego pointed at it.
"Gimme that one!" he proclaimed. The man took the panda down and handed it to Diego. Diego grabbed it from him with a nod before turning to me. He handed me the stuffed animal with a smug grin. "Here," he spoke while I gathered the panda in my arms.
"Thanks," I smiled at him. I would have to add the now named Michael Jackson panda to my collection. Get it? A panda is black and white...its the name of one of his songs...never mind.
Jaime POV
Tye had dragged me to the dumb festival again this year. The team probably had stuff for me to do back at the cave, but instead I was here, wading through spilled popcorn and chewed gum. Tye loved the rides. We were walking over to the drop tower when I saw a flash of h/c hair. My heart swelled as I saw y/n standing against a counter with...Diego. My swollen heart then deflated and I felt my shoulders slump. Tye tried to see what I was looking at and when he did, he placed a hand on my shoulder. When Diego was handed a panda stuffed animal, then he handed it to y/n, my fists clenched and I felt myself tense up. She laughed just then, a glorious, beautiful sound, but she wasn't laughing at something I said...she was laughing at something Diego said. Oh how I wish it was me over there. Winning her gifts and making her laugh.
"Hey Tye," I came up with an idea. "I think there is a new ride over this way." I gestured in the direction y/n and Diego just walked. Tye gave me a look and shrugged before leading the way. Secretly, I didn't know if there was a new ride, I just wanted to follow y/n and Diego to make sure that scumbag...I mean guy didn't do anything to her.
Tye and I followed them from a distance, watching them play all the carnival games in the street. Diego kept winning her prize after prize and I kept getting more and more...angry. I didn't realize how upset I was until I heard the scarab talking to me.
Jaime Reyes, you must calm down. I shook my head and cleared my thoughts. Just when I was about to relax, the two headed for the Ferris Wheel. I scowled and sped over, not caring if Tye was behind me or not. I heard him sigh and follow behind me, slowly...very slowly. We were right behind them, waiting to get on the dumb wheel that guys use just to make out with their dates. I knew that Diego was gonna try something on my girl. Well...she's not my girl yet, but she will be...that is if Diego keeps his filthy hands off her first.
Your POV
The Ferris Wheel. I knew Diego would try something like this. He had been hinting at getting us together all night. Sometimes his hand would sneak down and try to grab mine, but only to make me jerk my hand away. Eventually, I just kept my hands around my panda bear. Hopefully that sent him the message that I didn't want to be together, but then again, he did drag me over to the freaking Ferris Wheel. While I was thinking, Diego must have seen his chance and suddenly, his lips were against my cheek. I pulled away in surprise and blinked at him. He blushed and put his hands behind his back. There was a growl from behind me and I had to look over my shoulder. My eyes met chocolate brown eyes and I couldn't help but smile. There, standing just behind me, was Jaime Reyes. He was dressed how he usually was, messy yet neat. I flashed him a genuine smile before I was yanked forward by Diego. I let out a yelp of surprise from him pulling my arm. It actually kind of hurt.
"Diego that hurt," I told him, backing away. "Why would you do that?" Diego turned to me, a scowl covering his features.
"You're here with me," he snarled. "Not Reyes." I hugged my panda tighter before furrowing my eyebrows.
"I may have come here with you," I retorted. "But I won't be leaving with you. And I certainly won't be getting on that...make-out-wheel with you either." He curled his upper lip, looking down at the ground before glaring at me.
"Fine," he started towards me. When he was just in front of me, he ripped the panda out of my arms. My mouth dropped. That was childish. He pushed his way past me and through the rest of the crowd to get out of the Ferris Wheel line. I stumbled slightly from him shoving against my shoulder, but two hands on my waist steadied me.
"Are you okay?" Jaime looked down at me. I smiled and hugged him.
"I am now," I assured him. He scratched the back of his head before turning to Tye. They seemed to have a silent conversation, then Tye nodded and excused himself from the line.
"Where's Tye going?" I asked. Jaime shrugged and stepped closer to me.
"I honestly don't know," he explained. "But now that your date has stormed out...would you want to go on the Ferris Wheel with me instead?" I grinned and nodded. Jaime stepped up so that we were side by side.
When it was our turn to board our gondola, Jaime helped me in before climbing in next to me. Once we were secured, he scooted closer to me.
"y/n," he started.
"Yes?"
He bit his lip, "I really like you. I have for a while now." I looked down, blush covering my cheeks and I couldn't help but smile. "If you don't like me back-"
"Jaime," I interrupted. He looked over at me. Our gondola stopped at that exact moment, at the very top. Just like in the movies. "I like you too." He stared at me, eyes wide before scanning my face. I licked my lips and Jaime moved closer to me, our faces only centimeters apart. His hand was placed gently under my cheek and he pulled my face towards his, our lips meeting in the middle. My hands subconsciously moved to his chest, then around his neck, our lips moving in perfect harmony. When we pulled apart, Jaime grinned and put his arm over my shoulders.
"Now you can't tell me you would have rather had Diego up here with you," Jaime smirked. I grinned, then realized something.
"Diego?" I questioned. I squinted my eyes at Jaime. "You weren't jealous were you?" Jaime blushed, frantically shaking his head. "I don't believe you," and I kissed his lips again.
