Chapter XX

I was pleasantly awoken by three things that surprised me: the smell of fresh air, the sound of birds chirping, and Heath and Jack acting like absolute morons.

"Can you guys not? I'm trying to rest here," I sighed.

"Yeah, and we're not," Heath laughed.

That's when Sam woke up. "Oh, for the love of dicks," he muttered groggily. "Are you guys seriously screwing around without me?"

"Yes," Jack replied.

"What is all this ruckus?" Mackenzie moaned as she woke up.

"Just ignore them, Mackenzie. It's for the best," I told her. Mackenzie just rolled her eyes.

Once everyone else was awake, we set out to see what could be found. The forest we were in happened to be right next to the park we had our first meeting at, before the flood. Surprisingly, it was still intact for the most part. We ventured around town, and it seemed pretty normal... until we reached downtown.

"Jesus... what happened here?" Heath asked in bewilderment once we arrived in downtown. Let me put an image in your mind to give you an idea- it was like a bunch of gigantic bulldozers had bulldozed downtown, and then they blew the whole place up with dynamite.

You're welcome for the nightmares, because I had them for quite a while after that.

Our group found a random pile of rubble to sit on. After that, Sam said, "Wow... of all places to do their work in, they chose downtown. What dumbasses."

"Hey, downtown is cool," Julianna said defensively.

Then we heard a small drone-like noise from nearby. Our fourteen eyes turned to see two robots floating right next to us. One of them beeped, "TARGETS FOUND. EXECUTION SHALL COMMENCE."

"Now would probably be a good time to get away from here," I quietly whisper to everyone,

So we took off, and the chase began.

Mackenzie

We pretty much ran straight out of downtown and into a nearby neighborhood, which was still pretty badly wrecked from the flood. Once we stopped to catch our breath, it only took 10 seconds for the robots to show back up.

"Guys, don't panic," Sam told us. "There's 7 of us and 2 of them."

The first person to take in that knowledge was Heath, who immediately took out one of the robots with a quick gunshot. However, this only made things harder for the 2nd one. It shot the gun straight out of Heath's hand, and ended up doing the same for Jack and Sam.

However, Eghosa was ready. She snuck behind the robot from behind and knocked it down with her crowbar. She finished it off with a few more crowbar beatings after that. To add insult to injury, I leaped on top of it to damage it even more.

"Lame," Julianna smirked.

What happened next, however, shocked us all. The ground beneath us began to rumble viciously. And then, out of nowhere popped an incredibly large, robotic pair of pants.

"Where did THAT come from!?" Jack asked, bewildered.

"No clue. I guess we're running again?" Julianna asked, beginning to get up.

"Yep," I answered.

So we ran, and ran, and ran. We ran until finally, we couldn't run any longer. The robotic pants was on our tail the entire time, and when we stopped, it stopped as well. Then a hole opened up in its you-know-where area.

"What now?" Elle moaned.

Her answer was a couple dozen soldiers leaping out of the pants and taking us all hostage. We tried to fight back against them, but we were too tired and they were too strong, and plus, we were incredibly outnumbered. In less than a minute, they had all seven of us in the pants with them.

After they got all of us in, the door closed and one man yelled into a radio, "We found the teens."

"Good. Send 'em back to the lair."

With that, the pants began moving once more. It was hard to tell from the inside, but it seemed as if the pants were moving at a jogging rate.

"Y'know, I never thought I'd be taken captive in a gigantic pair of pants," Sam mused to himself.

"This is no time for joking!" I hissed. "We've got to do something!"

"Quiet back there!" a voice shouted from the front.

"Where are you taking us?" Julianna asked forcefully. Her answer was a slap to the face. A hard one.

"Hey!" Eghosa shouted in protest.

"You wanna get slapped, too?" the soldier retorted. "If not, I'd suggest you keep quiet."

Since we pretty much had no choice, we heeded the soldier's advice. No one was sure what was going to happen at this point.

What I knew for sure was that there was definitely a way out of this. There always is, right?

"Are the kids here?" the Great Big Boss asked for the umpteeth time (he's an impatient men, if you haven't noticed).

"We just arrived at the base." a soldier's voice answered.

"Good... good... nice work."

"Thanks, sir. I'll see you in a sec."

"See ya." the Great Big Boss hung up and then laughed maniacally to himself. "Ah, we've come a long way, haven't we, Bradley?"

Normally, Bradley's voice would've instantly responded. But that didn't happen this time. "Bradley? Hello? You here?" the Great Big Boss asked loudly.

"Eh, he's probably got diarrhea issues again," he muttered. So the Great Big Boss went to see his lieutenant again.

"One step closer?" the lieutenant asked, a smile on his face.

"Yep. Now all we need is those damn orbs, and we'll finally be able to use their powers to get the rest of the resources Korelian needs," the Great Big Boss replied.

"Do you plan on fighting them for it?"

The Great Big Boss pondered that for a second. "If it comes to that, yes. I've got some power left in me from last time, so I can use that if I have to."

An intercom then turned on. "Boss, the children have arrived."

A smile formed across the Great Big Boss' face. "Welp, better get moving." And with that, he went off to go find his throne.

Cool chapter imo. If I happen to get the next chapter done tonight, that'll allow me to get one more chapter done (since the chapter AFTER the next one is already done).

Also, yay for reaching the 69 song mark lol
