I sat next to Duncan as we all sat around the fire.
Sadie and Bridget walked over. Sadie was still sobbing, and even clutching a piece of wood.
"It was a long good bye" Bridget said to me.
"Hey guys" Trent greeted as the Gophers walked over. "What do you want? Come to rub it in?" Courtney snapped. "No! We just had some left over food from the tuck shop party and thought that you'd like some" Trent said calmly.
"Oh, so your just being nice?" asked Courtney. "Okay, fine. Owen stank up the cabin so we're letting it air out a bit" Gwen fessed up. Owen farted again. "Sorry" he said, as Trent said, "Gross!"
Beth offered green jelly to Courtney. "No! I mean, no thank you" she said. "What, you on a diet or something?" Duncan teased. "No! I just don't like green jelly" she defended herself.
Beth then offered it to DJ.
"SNAKE!!" he screamed and slapped if out of her hands. Man, I actually wanted some!
"Chill, dude. It's just a gummy worms" said Cody as he picked up the worm. "Sorry for tripping. Snakes just freak me out" DJ explained.
"I feel you, dude. Chickens give me the creeps" said Tyler. "Chickens! That's. That's really lame" Duncan teased him.
And suddenly, it was like a big share fest.
Beth talked and talked about how she was terrified of being covered in bugs. Harold hates ninjas, and even Heather said she was scared of sumo wrestlers.
"What's my worst fear? I guess being hurried alive" said Gwen. "Flying man. That's some crazy stuff!" said Owen. "Oh! I would never get up in a plane! Never" added Izzy.
"Walking through a mine field. In heels!" exclaimed Lindsey.
"Having to defuse a time bomb under pressure" said Cody.
"Being left alone in the woods" said Bridget.
"Bad hair cuts" Sadie said. "Oh wait! I change mine! That's soooooooooooo much scarier than a mine field" Lindsay said.
"Hail. It's small, but deadly dude" Geoff said.
"Okay, Courtney. Your afraid of something spit it out!" Trent said. "Nope. Nothing" she said smugly. "Baloney!" Duncan coughed.
"Oh? And what's your fear, Me. Know-It-All?" she asked. Duncan looked around at all of us.
"Ce-Celine Dion music store standees" he rushed. "Ex-squeeze me? I didn't quite hear that!" Cody taunted him.
"Dude, did you say Celine Dion music store standees?" Trent asked. "Oh, I love Celine Dion! What's a standee?" asked Lindsay.
"A card board cut out that you see at the front of stores. So, basically a really flat Celine" Trent explained. "So, if we had a standee right now?" asked Courtney. "Shut it! How about you guys?" Duncan snapped. "Well, I'm hate mimes. Like a lot" he said, and everyone looked at me.
I sighed.
"I have two fears. One is my sister dying, because she is my world, but there was an accident so that she has a scar over her eye, and she's half blind. And my other fear is being burned alive" I said with a shudder.
"Why?" asked Owen.
"I hate the heat. It means sweating and burns and storms. But the cold means staying inside with a good book and hot chocolate. And, I don't really have good skin, so I get burned easily. Plus, just imagine getting caught on fire and dying because if it" I said.
Everyone shuddered a bit.
"Come on, Courtney! You have to be afraid of something!" Trent exclaimed. "Nope. Nothing" she said. "That's not what she said last night" Duncan said to me.
"Duncan, did you ever consider that maybe I was humoring you and your stupid story?" asked Courtney. "Sure, sure Princess, whatever floats your boat" he teased.
"Shut up!" she yelled. We gave up, and we went to bed.
Duncan grabbed my arm and led me to his bed. He helped me up, and I slowly fell asleep.
The next morning, we all went to the lodge.
"Campers! Your next challenge is a little game I like to call Phobia Factor! Prepare to face your worst fear!" Chris announced.
"Now, for our first victims. Heather! Meet us all in the theater. It's sumo time!!"
Heather spit out the coffee she was drinking.
"Gwen. You, me, the beach... And a few tons of sand" Chris continued.
"Wait. How did they know those were your worst fears?" asked Lindsay. "Because we told them" Gwen groaned.
Lindsay still looked confused.
"At the camp fire last night" Trent explained as he patted her back.
"Wait! They were listening to us!?" Lindsay asked. "It's a reality show, Einstein. They're always listening to us" Gwen said, highly annoyed. "That's like, eavestroffing!" Lindsay exclaimed.
"Chef Hatchet? Didn't you have a special order for Tyler here today?" asked Chris.
Chef handed a fried chicken to Tyler. He ate the head, and then a real chicken poked his head out!
"How is it alive!?" I exclaimed.
"Oh, we didn't for get you, Nicky. Meet us by the cabins" Chris said with a smirk.
My eyes widened and I started to shake a little.
Duncan put his arm around my shoulder in comfort.
Up first was Beth. She jumped into a kiddie pool full of bugs, and even had a few in her braces.
Chris gave Lindsay and Sadie mullet wigs.
Owen and Izzy went up in a plane.
Turns out Harold was attacked by ninjas in the bathroom.
LaShawna ran from Chef in a spider suit.
Heather had to face a sumo wrestler. She crouched when he ran at her, only for the fat guy to trip over her and start bouncing away.
Bridget had to go in the woods for six hours.
Then, Gwen was put in a glass box under ground for five minutes.
Then, we all went to the amphitheater to watch DJ face his fear.
A small snake was in a glass box. It blinked and DJ screamed.
"It's okay DJ. It means she likes you!" I encourage him.
"It's the smallest snake ever, DJ! Come on!" Courtney yelled.
"Yeah, but it's slimy and scaly, slithery!" he protested.
"We need this point DJ! Suck it up!" she continued to tell
Duncan, Harold, Tyler, Geoff and I shook our heads at her.
"What!? We're heading back to Loserville people" she protested, though she glared at me. I looked down.
DJ sighed, and held out his hand. The snake went on his finger, and he smiled, earning us a point.
"See? Fear is only in the mind" Courtney said.
Chris then went with Cody to show him his challenge.
"Duncan! Your next" said Chris. He led us to the cabins, and there was a Celine Dion standee there.
I stood next to him as he gripped my hand.
"It's okay. One hug and your done. She's nice, she has a great voice. But it's okay if you can't do it" I said.
He sighed.
"It looks really real, though" he said.
"Here. Just imagine her as someone you like, and hug that person. Like a best friend, or a girlfriend back at home" I offered.
He nodded, and squeezed his eyes shut.
Then without any warning, he ran at the standee, and hugged it.
"Yeah! Great job, Duncan!" I cheered as he smiled.
"I actually did it!" he said, and he hugged me.
"Thanks Shorty" he said. I laughed. "No problem" I said.
Then, when Geoff went to relax, he started getting pelted with hail. "Nicky! It's your turn!" Chris said with a smile.
My eyes widened, and he led me to behind the cabins.
There was a glass box on top of a big pile of wood, kind of like the stake where they burned witches.
"You have to stay there for ten minutes" he said as I started to shake. "But Gwen only had to do five minutes!" Duncan exclaimed.
"That's because I'm going to give double points to Nicky if she finishes" Chris explained.
I took in a deep breath, but that only made me feel worse.
"Like you said, it's okay if you can't do it" he said. I shook my head. "No. I'm going to do it" I said.
"You have to stop pushing yourself! This is going to kill you!" he tried to talk sense into me.
But, I walked up to the box. I was handed a walkie talkie, and the door closed.
Then, I watched the wood around me erupt into flames. I started to shake a bit, and curled up into a ball.
"Hello? Anyone there?" I asked through the walkie talkie.
"Yeah, it's me" said Duncan.
"Okay. Um, tell me about yourself, so that it will distract me" I said.
"Okay. Well, I like neon green, mashed potatoes, root beer, wolves, and I'm totally a nerd about guns" he said. "Why guns?" I asked.
"I don't know. I just like knowing what gun shot me if I were ever murdered" he said.
"Um, okay. I like dark green, dark purple, and black, I like grilled cheese and tomato soup, also root beer, dragons, and I'm a nerd about Greek mythology, Harry Potter, and Marvel" I said.
"Wait, did you say dragons?" he asked.
"Yeah. They have always been my favorite. I mean, I know they aren't real, but if they were, I'd have one" I said sheepishly.
"Hey, only six more minutes to go" he said.
"Okay, um, cat or dog?" I asked. "Dog, for sure. I've always wanted a big dog" he said.
"Me too! I actually found a litter of Golden retriever and German Shepherd mixed. I wanted to get one, so that I could train it to protect me, and cuddle. I don't really have anybody to cuddle with except my sister, and she starting to grow out of it" I said.
"Hey, I can be your cuddle buddy" he offered. I smiled. "Thanks" I said.
"Well, I'll keep this on me, we have to go watch Courtney jump into a pool of green jello" he said.
"Okay" I said.
It was silent for a bit. I talked into the walkie talkie, but got no response. I started to panic, and yelled into the device.
"Duncan! Are you there!?" I yelled, but no response.
I started to hyperventilate, and I couldn't take it anymore. I pushed against the glass, but the door wouldn't open! I banged against it over and over until my shoulder was throbbing.
"Someone help!!" I yelled.
But no one was near.
I curled up and started rocking back and forth.
I kicked at the glass until it broke. But the smoke rushed in, and I couldn't breath. And the heat was unbearable. I screamed, and tried to get out, but I was surrounded by fire.
Soon, it was too much, and I passed out from the smoke.
Duncan's POV
I rolled my eyes when Courtney came back down the ladder. Nicky was doing a life threatening challenge, yet she couldn't just jump in the jello!?
Speaking of Nicky, I went to grab my walkie talkie, but it wasn't there. Then we heard a scream.
I ran to where the fire was, and saw Nicky broke her glass box, but now was choking on the smoke.
"Nicky!!" I yelled, and went in after her.
But I couldn't get through the fire. Chris came out with Chef with fire extinguishers, and helped put it out. When it was out, I ran and picked up Nicky.
She groaned and moved a bit, but she didn't wake up..
I rushed to the medical tent, and they put her on life support.
I didn't even leave to make my vote, and I missed the bond fire, but I didn't care.
Soon, Nicky woke up.
"Duncan. What happened?" she asked. "Someone stole my walkie talkie, and I guess you panicked and broke the box, and you passed out due to the heat and the smoke" I said.
She nodded.
"Who took it?" she asked.
"I don't know. I've been here the whole time. By the way, Tyler was voted off" I said, and she nodded. "Okay. When can I get out?" she asked.
"When your feeling better. Chris also said you'll probably have to miss tomorrow's challenge" I said.
"No, I'll do it. I feel fine" she protested. I sighed.
"But I won't let you do any of the work" I said seriously as I helped her up.
"We'll talk more about this later. I'm tired" she said.
I chuckled.
"Okay. Get changed and meet me in the boys cabin" I said.
We walked to the cabin.
Soon, there was a knock, and Nicky entered.
She was wearing a blue long sleeved shirt that showed the slightest bit of her belly, and short shorts.
We both climbed up onto my bed, and slowly fell asleep.
