Okie dokie, so, just a clear warning, discreet mentions of rape and a few inappropriate things, just a fair warning
Nicky's POV
We woken up to the usual air horn.
Duncan got up, and helped me down. I honestly am really grateful for having him in my life.
He has helped me with my nightmares and helped me when I almost got burned alive.
We got ready, and went out by the dock.
"Bass, Gophers. Today's challenge is a true summer camp experience. A canoe trip. You'll be paddling your canoes across the lake to Boney Island" Chris said in a creepy voice.
"When you get there, you must portage your canoes to the other side of the island. Which is about a two hour hike through treacherous, dense jungle" he continued.
"We have to por-what?" asked Geoff. "It means to carry the canoe over your head" I explained as Chris looks annoyed.
"Oh" was all he said.
Chris then continued.
"When you get to the other end of the island, you'll build a rescue fire that will be judged by me. The first team to paddle home and return their canoes to the beach is the winner of invincibility. Move campers! Move!" he yelled, and we started running.
"Oh wait! One more thing I should mention!" he called back and we all stopped.
"Legend has it that if you take anything off the island, you'll be curse forever!" he said in a creepy voice. There was suddenly some thunder out of nowhere.
"Yeah! A cursed island! Woo!!" Owen cheered.
We all gave him a weird look.
"Now, let's get in your canoes and let's have some fun!" Chris said and we started walking to our canoes.
"Yes!" Owen still cheered.
"Hey partner" said Duncan to me. I smiled and turned slightly red.
I put on my life jacket, and he pushed us in the water.
"You still okay after yesterday?" he asked. I nodded. "Just a bit shaken up. But I'm good" I said.
"Good" he said.
"So, um, I can't swim, so is this safe?" I asked cautiously.
"Shoot, I forgot about that. Yeah, this should be safe" he said. I nodded.
We got in line with the other campers. "On your marks! Get set! Paddle!" Chris yelled, and a dead bird fell in front of him.
"Um, can you help distract me? Um, did you see what Geoff made for Bridget?" I asked.
He laughed.
"Man, he is head over heels for her! But it was terrible!" he said, and I nodded in agreement. "But, it was a sweet thought" I said. "I guess. But, did you see that he used a picture of him and DJ?" he asked, and I laughed. "Oh my god, I laughed so hard!" I said, and he smiled.
Soon, we reached some fog on the water.
"Was, um, was this here before?" I asked nervously. "No" he said, but even he looked nervous.
We looked at the island, and I jumped when I saw a skull in the rocks. We got out of our canoes and started running.
We ran into giant beavers with tusks. The Gophers ran and the beavers followed, leaving us to hike in somewhat peace.
Soon, we came to a fort in the path. "Which way do we go?" asked DJ.
"Left. Definitely left" said Courtney. "I don't know. I think we should take the one on the right" objected Geoff. "The right trail is wider" Bridget added.
Geoff smiled at her.
"What are you looking at?" Bridget asked him. He smiles at her, and we went to the right. Duncan and I trailed behind.
"I so want Geoff and Bridget together" I said quietly.
"Same. Geoff just makes it too awkward" he said, and I nodded.
Up ahead, Geoff fell to the ground.
"Ah! My leg! I'm down! I'm down! Ahh it's so unfair! Why did this have to happen now!? Why!?!? Why!?!?" he yelled out dramatically.
"Geoff!" Bridget called, and rushed over to him.
"You've gotta go on without me!" Geoff continued. Courtney started to walk away, but DJ stopped her.
"We're not leaving any man behind! Not on my watch!" DJ said with a determined look.
The guy had the tiniest splinter, yet Duncan and I carried him on our canoe.
"What are you playing at?" asked Duncan.
"Trying to get Bridge to maybe like me back" he said quietly so no one heard him but us.
"I wanna help" I said. "Me too. You guys are perfect for each other" Duncan added.
"Thanks guys. Your the best" he said as we got to the beach.
We gathered some wood, and Duncan pulled out a lighter and lit the fire.
"How did they do that so quickly?" Heather asked. Duncan held up the lighter.
"No rules against carrying lighters" Chris said.
We all gathered wood, and Geoff was groaning as he pulled himself with his arms.
"Bridge, Nicky. You guys have first aid training, right?" asked DJ, and they both rambled about a few foot diseases.
Bridge took a look, and I continued to gather wood. But, Harold threw in our paddles.
"How are we supposed to get home now!?" Bridget yelled.
Suddenly, there was an explosion, and the Gophers ended up with a huge fire.
"We have our fire building winners! Point for the Gophers!" Chris called.
That's when I felt burning on my hand.
I winced and saw that almost all of my hand red.
I winced again.
"Um, guys?" I asked. Duncan looked at me, and saw me hand. He came over, and checked it.
"It looks like a first degree burn, maybe a second degree" he said, and I nodded.
"What are we gonna do without paddles?" Courtney asked.
"You guys could get someone behind the boats and push them. I did that once for this huge sixty foot yaght. The whole crew had to flutter kick for like eight days to get to shore. And like, four of us got eaten by sharks. Haha, I didn't, not me. But it was really insane. Okay, later!" Izzy said, and LaShawna paddled hard, and Izzy fell behind her seat.
"That might work!" said Geoff.
"We need someone big enough to push all the canoes back" remarked Bridget.
"DJ? Your the only one who is strong enough" she continued.
"You can't ask him to do that, the dude can't swim!" Geoff protested. "Geoff, I know your friends, but DJ is the only chance we got!" she said. "She's right. These skinny noodle arms won't cut it" Courtney added, holding up one of Harold's arms.
"I'll do it" said Geoff.
"You can't swim with this kind of injury! Your horribly disfigured!" Bridget protested.
"I can do this. I have to" DJ said. "That is one brave man" Geoff said.
We stacked the boats and we all climbed in.
I sat on Duncan's lap since there wasn't enough space for everyone to have a spot.
I blushed slightly, and he wrapped his arms around me.
We all changes his name and cheered him on as he kicked. Soon, we flew past the Gophers, and literally flew into the beach.
"The Bass are the winners!" Chris called when we crash landed. We cheered and Duncan hugged me. I watched as LaShawna chased Izzy. Us Bass hung out in front of our cabin. I heard a helicopter call down to the fire pit, and I watched Izzy run as she laughed psychotically.
I sat on Bridget's bed, and I looked up when there was a crash.
Bridget sighed at the smashed gift. "Got any glue?" she asked us. I smiled and nodded.
"I wouldn't waste my time trying to fix that" Courtney said in a snobbish tone.
I tossed the glue to Bridget.
"Maybe I would" she murmured thoughtfully.
I smiled.
"Good night, guys" I said and I went over to the guts cabin.
"No, wait! Why do you get to go over there?" Courtney demanded.
"I um, have nightmares, so Duncan has been helping me out" I said, looking at my feet.
"Really? Over a few stupid nightmares?" she asked.
Bridget gasped.
"Courtney!" she exclaimed.
"What? It's true! They are just nightmares! It's not like they're real!" she argued back.
I sighed.
She had a point. I hopped on top of my bunk, and curled up into a ball. "I guess your right. Good night guys" I said, and I dozed off.
But I was cold. I actually missed sleeping next to Duncan. When I knew they were asleep, I snuck out of the girls cabin, and walked over to the boys side. I quietly opened the door, and climbed up next to Duncan. When I lied down, he wrapped his arms around me out of instinct. I smiled and I curled up with him.
"What took you so long?" he murmured.
"Courtney. She said I shouldn't come over here over a few nightmares. I believed her at first, but I just couldn't sleep. I got used to sleeping next to you" I said quietly. He smirked. "Wow, I feel special" he said. "Shut up" I said, and we both fell asleep.
But, tonight was one of those nights I guess, because only a few hours later, I woke up because of a nightmare. I was breathing deeply and ran a hand through my hair.
"Hey. You okay?" Duncan asked, sitting up next to me.
I nodded.
"Nightmare?" he asked, and I nodded again.
"I'm gonna go out on the dock to get a bit of fresh air, it usually helps" I said. He got down and helped me down. "I'll go with you. Believe it or not, I actually got used to you next to me too" he said, and I blushed.
We walked out, and made our way to the docks.
It was kind of muggy out, but I didn't dare take off my jacket.
Duncan put an arm around my shoulders.
"You feel kind of hot. Take off the jacket, it might help" he said.
"No, it's okay" I said, putting my feet in the water.
"I'm not gonna judge your scars if that's what your worries about" he said.
"I know. I just hate showing skin. That's why I wear a jacket over my crop top and leggings under my shorts and knee high sneakers" I explained.
"Why is that?" he asked.
"Can I trust you not to tell anyone?" I asked. He nodded.
"Um, well, about a year ago, Sammy was staying at a friend's house, and Claude had a habit of getting drunk and going to strip clubs" I started. He nodded.
"And, um, one time. He didn't come home with a girl. And um, well. He uh, kind of, um" I tried to say, but I couldn't bring myself to say it. His eyes widened.
"Wait, did he...?" he implied. I nodded. He wrapped his arms around my shoulder and brought me closer to him.
"I'm so sorry Nicky" he said quietly as a few tears fell.
"Since then, I've just always hated showing any skin" I finished.
He stayed silent and just hugged me. "Is that when the nightmares started?" he asked, but I shook my head.
"They started two years ago. Claude had just started abusing me and Sammy, and my step mom had paid a visit to us. And it was on the same day my mom and brother died. It was a really twisted day" I said. His grip on me tightened.
"Are you leaving any time soon?" he asked, and I nodded.
"Yeah. Bridget said I could stay with her" I said.
He sighed of releif.
"Thank God" he muttered.
"Do you live in Toronto?" I asked. "Yeah why?" he asked. I smiled slightly.
"Geoff, DJ, Bridget and I have a plan to get together" I said.
"I'm in" he said right away. We smiled at each other. Slowly, we both leaned in.
His lips brushes against mine, and I closed the gap.
We kissed for a few moments and we pulled away. I blushed and looked at my feet.
"Sorry if that made you uncomfortable" he said after a few moments.
I looked at him.
"It didn't" I promised.
"Good" he said, and he kissed me again. I smiled slightly and kissed back.
We pulled away again.
"I think it's time we go to bed" he said, and I nodded as I yawned.
We walked back to the cabin, and we both climbed onto his bunk.
He kissed my forehead, and slowly, I fell asleep.
Duncan's POV
I looked down at her and felt a rush of anger.
Her boyfriend raped her. How is she putting up with that!?
I sighed and hugged her tighter.
Once this is over, no more juvie. Instead, I'm going to get an apartment near her and Bridget. Maybe Geoff and DJ will join me.
I smiled at this plan.
Man the things I would do for this girl. It's crazy actually.
But, what's life without a bit of crazy?
