Mitch's POV

I went straight to Scott's house after school to check on him.
As soon as I walked in, I found a note on the counter and my heart sank.
All these bad thoughts came to my head, and I got tears in my eyes.
I was shaking, and I don't even know what the note said.
I shakily walked to the counter and picked it up.
It read:
'I went to Starbucks, don't freak out. ~Scott'

Jesus Hoying, you scared the crap out of me.
Oh my gosh..
I take a deep breath, and put the note on the counter.
I grabbed my keys and drove to Starbucks.

I saw Scott sitting alone in a booth, with a hoodie on and a cold drink in his hand.
I walked to his booth and gently tapped on his table.
"Hey.. mind if I sit?" I ask.
He looks up and shakes his head. "You don't have to keep me company." He says.
I sat across from him.
"I know. I want to. Other than Kirstie, I don't have any other friends." I say.
"Oh... I... I guess I don't have any..." Scott says.
"Yes you do."
"No, I don't Mitch."
"I'm your friend. I won't be a jerk, like those kids at school."
He keeps his head down, and doesn't say a word.
"I won't make fun of you, I won't judge you, I won't laugh at you, I won't bully you, I won't push you away. Be yourself around me, and I'll be me around you." I say.
He looks up and smiles.
"T-thank you..." he says.
I smile.
As he sips on his drink, we talk about our similarities. We talk more about eachother, getting to know eachother and taking Scott's mind off of everything.
It was good to see him smile, he still sounded upset. And I know there was something more than that text bothering him... I was afraid to ask what else he was upset.

"Thanks again, Mitch. You really don't have to be my fr-"
"Shhh, I want to be." I say, putting my finger to his lips and laughing.
He laughed, and that made me happy.

Scott got in my car, since he walked here and I drove us back to his house.

"You coming to school tomorrow?" I ask, as I pull into his driveway.
"Maybe." He says.
"Okay, call me if you need anything. I'm always here."
He smiles and gets out, and walks into his house.
I take a deep breath and pull out of his driveway and go back to my apartment.

I will never forgive myself for sending him that message.
It hurt him more than ever, even though I'm pretty sure there's more to his story...

Scott's POV

The next morning

My alarm clock goes off and wakes me up.
I lay in my bed, thinking for a few minutes.
School today, or not school?
It's hard... Mitch is my only friend... and.. if I go to school, he will see the things that happens to me.. that he doesn't know...
