TWENTY-SIX

Jake was completely wrong. When the young couple left night after a few hours of getting to know the vampire clan, Seth took Bentleigh home. Embry just asked how their night went and asked to see the ring. Meaning he knew that it was going to happen.

After Bentleigh talked with Embry, she went up to her room where she found Nova and Kim on her bed awaiting her to get back. They talked and laughed about some things for about an hour or so before Nova went to hers and Embry's room and Kim left to go to her house.

Later that night, Bentleigh laid there half asleep when she heard the door open. Without turning towards the door she already knew who it was. The bed dipped down under someone's weight as they climbed into bed beside her. Smiling to herself, he snaked an arm around her waist and pulled her into him as they laid there.

"Night beautiful." He said kissing the back of her head.

"Goodnight Seth." Bentleigh replied drifting off into a peaceful sleep almost instantly.

It had been a couple days since that day and Bentleigh wasn't in the brightest of moods as she walked into Sam and Emily's house. She knew that she wasn't going to hurt Emily but she was in for a much needed vent session.

With Bentleigh being younger than Emily, she had always thought of Emily as an older sister figure seeing how she was there for her most when Bentleigh needed girl talk. And not Embry or her friends. Someone she could go to in a time like this.

Bentleigh took the old path that she realized took her straight to Emily's house from the new house and when she came up to Emily's house she saw the back door was open. Going inside, Bentleigh couldn't find her anywhere. But after a few minutes, Sam walked in the house through the front door.

"Bentleigh? What's going on?" Sam questioned as he could sense the anger and discomfort radiating from the young shifter.

Spinning around at the sound of his voice she looked up at him, "Could you tell me where Emily is? I need her terribly right now." She told him in an urgent tone.

"She's at the doctors today for a check up. Em won't be back until later on. Wanna tell me what's going on? Maybe I could help you." Sam offered causing her to snort a laugh.

"Y-yo-you can't help me with this," Bentleigh let out an airy laugh. "What would you know about any of this?"

Sam gave her a stern look like Embry would give her when they were kids and he caught her doing something she wasn't supposed to be doing. "Well, I'm not going to allow you to see Emily if you don't calm down. Alright?" Bentleigh nodded her head.

"Does this have to do with Seth? You guys seemed so happy the other day when you were here." Sam questioned causing Bentleigh to let out a huff of air as she shook her head.

"No, it isn't Seth. He's perfect." Bentleigh sighed in defeat. "Lottie's adoption of Parker was finalized and in celebration, she brought Parks down for a visit."

"What's so bad about that, Leigh?" Sam asked genuinely confused with her dilemma.

"Lottie didn't say anything about Maverick showing up with her. I haven't told anyone this, not even Seth or Emily, but, when Seth took me on our first date, Maverick called saying he was helping me 'stay in touch' with everyone. I was keeping in touch, just not with him. It's just awkward." Bentleigh sighed once again and ran a hand frustratedly through her hair.

"It also doesn't help that he's trying to get me alone with him on purpose. He knows Seth. Its like he doesn't care. I don't wanna be around him. He doesn't understand. I missed the time when we were friends but now it's just awful. He's not a bad person, just bad intentions. I don't think he gets I'm happy with Seth. Maverick won't be in my life if he's going to keep doing this and he knows that because I told him the first night he was here." Bentleigh said rambling.
