Chapter 30 Tori
We arrived at the club at 6:30pm when it was still light and I moved to line up at the door but Lis pulled me ahead and jumped the line.
The big bouncer guy smiled at us as we walked straight past him and entered the club.
I was met with extremely loud music that vibrated off the walls and through your feet, numbing my body instantly.
I slipped into 'Club mode' and immediately started swaying my hips to the music as Lis lead me through the crowd of bodies to the bar.
"What can I get you two?" The bartender asked.
He was tall for a man of at least 40, with thinning black and grey hair. He smiled gently, the corners of his eyes crinkling together and making him look younger, and more friendly.
"Just two tequila's" I said cutting off Lis as she opened her mouth to reply.
"Coming right up" The bartender with the name tag 'Tim' said trotting down the bar to get glasses.
"What?" I asked Lis confused.
"Nothing" Lis shrugged.
She was on her tip-toes even in her heels, her eyes sweeping over the crowd obviously looking for someone.
"It's not nothing, what're-" I cut myself off when her smile brightened and she blushed furiously.
"Why is Darrel here?" I asked instead not even having to turn around to know it was him.
I'd seen that face plenty of times lately. The one were her eyes sparkled and her cheeks grew a light shade of red. Her smile always widened and if there hasn't been a smile, it was there now.
"Hey Tori" Darrel said when he brushed past me and pulled Lis close to him protectively.
He sent daggers to a group of guys who had been eyeing Lis before he arrived and they immediately averted their eyes and moved on to another girl.
Me.
I smiled weakly and turned back to the bar taking the drinks from Tim and handing one to Lis. She sipped it at first while Darrel ordered his drink and I watched them both silently.
'How can they do that?' I wondered, 'they're so comfortable around each other'.
Lis was leaning into Darrel while he held her protectively. She tilted her head up and caught his lips with hers and I turned away, embarrassed.
With my drink in hand I left the bar picking my way through the dance floor, the only destination on my mind, the booths in the corner.
Before I had made it even halfway across the dance floor someone grabbed my hips and pulled me into them.
With a jolt my first thought was that Ambrose had surprised me but the hands wrapped tightly around my waist were unfamiliar I tried to move away.
"Don't go sweetheart, I wanna dance" a male voice whispered seductively in my ear.
I gulped down my drink and placed the glass on a waiters tray as they passed turning back to the man behind me.
He was a boy, teenager approximately my age with shaggy brown hair covering his right eye.
Lis wanted me to have fun tonight. That was why she bought me here, right? Why not dance with some random guy and enjoy myself instead sit in a corner and sulk?
"I'll dance" I said moving my hips against his and faking a smile.
We danced for at least 20 minutes moving to the beat of the music. His hands were running up and down my body over and over again which I didn't really appreciate but decided to ignore.
I'd drunk another two glasses of Tequila and three shots of Vodka and the alcohol had set into my blood a calming buzz overwhelming me.
The boy in front of me pulled away and I looked up in confusion to see a fist collide with his face and him fall to the ground.
I cried out in surprise and dropped down beside him cradling his head in my lap and looking at the blood that was now trickling down his chin from his mouth and nose.
My reaction time was slow with the alcohol in my system and it took me a minute to look up at the attacker who surprisingly hadn't hit him again.
"Ambrose?" I asked in disbelief.
'That son of a bitch thinks he can go around knocking out any guy who touches me when he doesn't talk to me for two weeks' I thought angrily pulling myself to my feet and taking his hand.
"You fucking asshole" I whispered as I led him throw the crowd of dancers to the booths I had been walking to earlier.
"You don't talk to me for two weeks and then suddenly you just show up and knock out the guy I'm dancing with because you want to!" I whispered shout angrily.
Ambrose opened his mouth to speak but I cut him off, continuing my rant.
"I mean, who does that?" I asked cocking my hip and throwing my hands above my head angrily.
I was being dramatic I know, but that was the point.
Make him feel bad.
"We were perfectly fine one day having so much fun and then the stupid moron just walked out the fucking door like he never cared" I turned and glared at the table speaking to it as if Ambrose wasn't standing beside me.
"I seriously thought he hated me. I was convinced he never wanted me in the first place and it was all just a game" I said to the table.
Ambrose took my shoulder and tried to turn me toward him but I shrugged him off, stepping further away.
"I cried myself to sleep every night because I thought I wasn't good enough for him" I continued "but all of a sudden the same fucking idiot is at the same party as me TWO WEEKS LATER, punching random guys out because I decided to dance with them to forget about him and the pain he put me through" I was still talking to the table. "And I just don't understand why he had to walk out in the first place. Why he couldn't just stay and talk about it... Or not. I don't understand why he doesn't trust me. What-" I was cut off when strong arms lifted me up and through me up against the table.
I gasped when my back hit the booth and Ambrose's lips met mine. For a moment I was confused and I didn't kiss back but his hand that was wrapped tightly around the back of my neck, supporting it tugged on the short hair and I responded immediately.
His other hand trailed down my shoulder to my elbow and then made a beeline for the small of my back.
He pressed me up against the table harder and I sucked in a breathe, breaking to kiss for a second to breathe.
He was breathing heavily just like me but before I could really catch my breath he had caught my lips again and was kissing them fiercely.
"I hate you" I whispered to him running my fingers through his hair.
He laughed lightly and continue to pepper kissed down my neck and then returned to my lips.
"I love you too" he said quietly capturing my lips with his own again.
