I aimed too high,
I ran so fast,
my wind broke.
I launched higher than the sky,
Until at last
I fell lower than Hades.
like a racecar,
I roared down the track,
going close to the speed of light.
but i'm a dark thing,
and dark things are outshone
by light.
My fuel burnt out,
my flame doused quickly,
my wick ran down.
No more did people
stare at me soaring
way up in the blue sky,
they watched me fall
like a dying star.
shooting downwards.
NONE stayed to watch
NONE stretched out to catch.
As I fell,
I landed in ITS lair.
as I lay there,
in a crumpled heap,
I sheltered my face from its heat.
I feared it would take
the precious little I had left.
BUT the fiery tongues licked at me,
it ignited that little bit of timber left.
unsteadily, I rose in the face
of this monstrous danger.
It blinked at me,
like a cat blinks at a limping mouse.
With bated breath,
I dove, past and out.
REFUELLED.
I flew past it.
I've been ignited,
refuelled,
energized,
by my fears.
