I slowly got up, knife in hand.
I could feel the nervous sweat drip down the side of my burning cheek.
How hot is it in here?
I throw the question out of my head and focus on the intruder.
"Who are you?" I demand.
"I-I mean no harm! I swear!" The male voice answers in a some-what scared tone.
"What's your name and district?" My voice slightly cracks.
What if they are actually dangerous.
What if they just are innocent as me.
What if?
My mind juggles at these thoughts so much that zone out for a second.
"I said that my name is Jay Gavin Nick, and I'm from District 4." He repeated.
"You are...?" He asked, a lot more gentler than how I asked him.
I knock myself back into reality and look up at the tall handsome boy.
His features were flawless, perfect jaw-line, grayish-blue eyes, sandy blonde hair, tannish skin, and a fit body that made him look older.
"Rue Anne Woodensdale, District 11."
I stated with a cocky-like attitude.
He nodded and checked me over, deciding weather or not to kill me or to accept me as an ally.
"How old are you, Rue?" He sneered, trying to sound more dominant than me, but his voice quivered a bit.
"Twelve, I'll be thirteen in a month." I stood up straight, looking at my knife in my hand.
"I'm thirteen." He said, not paying attention to me.
He looked over at me after a few minutes and he snickered at the sight of my knife, "Are you really trying to threatened me with a little pathetic baby knife?"
I smirked, "And what have you got? I see no weapon of yours in sight!" I chuckle.
"Listen, Rue, I like you...I really do, but don't underestimate me. It would be a huge mistake on your behalf." He dug through his survival gear and brought out a sword...Thresh's.
I gasp, holding back my weeping tears.
"How'd you get that?" I stare at him.
He just looked down, shuffling his feet in complete discomfort.
He finally spoke up, "I stole it off your district partner's body."
I nodded, already knowing what the answer would be.
We stood in complete silence.
I looked around the cave, water trickling down the claustrophobic ceiling. I looked back over at Jay who was staring at me...not in a creepy way though.
"Rue, don't get me wrong. I'm not a psychotic tribute who just wants to win and go home...I mean I do want to go home but not in this scenario."
I smile at his awkwardness, he seems like such a charming guy but he just can't talk to me.
He stops talking after I cut him with my smile a silent giggles.
I look up and wipe the smile off my face, "Go on!" I urge him.
"I just want us to be allies. I watched the reapings, and I was astonished that nobody would volunteer for a beautiful girl like yourself." He walked closer to my and twirled my hair around his finger.
Now he's charming and breathtaking.
I try to be quick on my tongue but he's so heart-melting. He was oozing with compliments.
"I didn't need anybody to volunteer for me." I lie to him.
He smiled softly, "I would've if I could. I bet you that your best friend would too."
Just by mentioning Maverick made me feel depressed and sad.
"I-I ju-" I stammer over my own words, but before I could make a fool out of myself I feel warmth against my lips.
It takes me a few seconds to realize what's happening.
Jay is kissing me.
His lips are against mine.
