On My Path To Get Trapped

I couldn't focus.

My mind was going fuzzy.

I was trying so hard to break free.

I couldn't.

My sight was fading, I could only see the fox-faced tribute smiling...and sweating. It was blazing hot out here.

I was relapsing my time at my home district, and being with Thresh. My memories flooded me, painful and happy ones. I knew that I was a goner from the beginning of the Games.

I never stood a chance.

Then when I lost all hope, I felt the pressure go away on my chest and throat. I could breathe.

Am I dead? Am I a fallen tribute?

No I can't be.

I focus on my steady breathing.

I move my arms then my legs.

I'm not dead. I'm alive.

I instantly shoot up off the grass.

I take my surroundings in.

I look at the sky and realize that it's almost noon. She's fought me and Jay for a combination of two hours!

Next I look to see where the tribute girl was. What I saw wasn't a good sight.

She was getting tossed around like a rag doll by...mutts.

The cannon went off.

I put my attention onto the mutts.

They had bear-like features combined with dog features. It was gruesome looking.

Luckily they were in too much concentration with the tribute that they never noticed me.

I crouched down and crawled to my abandoned knife. I left the girl's knife, I really didn't need it.

What I needed was my survival pack. It was located by the cave entrance, which was the same as the mutts.

Great.

I catch my breath and run for it.

It was a stupid move but I couldn't leave the pack there, I wouldn't survive a day without it! It had water, food, and my weapons in there!

I didn't blink, I just ran.

I didn't look at the bear-dog mutts, I just wanted to grab the bag and go.

For my luck the one runt of the group saw me and warned the others, but they were all too late. I was gone in a flash of an eye. I was already running to the clan of trees by the time they started running.

The problem is, is that they were fast.

I barely got into a dense part of the forest before the largest one caught up to me.

I started climbing a huge tree, griping onto the branches. The mutt couldn't climb to my surprise.

"Shoo!" I yelled as I climbed higher in the oak tree.

All it did was growl and bark in response.

I rolled my eyes and kept climbing.

I couldn't wait it out, I mean yes I do have my survival pack, but I can't handle them all. Soon all the mutts will be here surrounding me.

And here is another moment where I have no clue how to get out of this situation.

I sigh in frustration.

I need him. I admit it!

I can't do this by myself.

I know I can't trust him with my heart, but I know I can trust him as an ally in fights. He's brave in fights. I'm not.

I just don't know if he's dead or if he just deserted.

I guess I'll find out tonight...if I make it till then.

"Jay!" I scream, leaning against the tree. Twenty feet below the reunited mutts howl, but I just ignore them.

"Shh!" I hear a demanding voice whisper.
