It was Emma who pulled Ethan out of the 4th dimensional rift. They were now sitting in the laboratory, feeling kind of helpless. They had no time to get the cure before Ethan went blind, and besides they had no idea where Seth and Alice were. Ethan, in exasperation, erupted. "Well, this is just great. I just lost my only friend, I'm going to go blind soon, I have no future ahead of me. There's nothing I can do about it! It would be better if I never even existed. I wish I could just disappear. "You do have a future," Emma said, as she was from the future. But Ethan didn't understand. "Don't try and give me some bullshit to feel less guilty about this. I had a perfect chance. If only I had been more careful..." "Ethan, no! You can't give up! There is -" Ethan cut Emma off. "No. Don't even try. I'm gone." Ethan slipped into the fourth dimension. He disappeared.
Emma sighed. The only person that could finish this was Ethan. He was the protagonist, after all. He just needed some courage. He just needed more confidence. He needed a friend. She knew Ethan could still hear him. "Ethan, you and Alice watched Dear Evan Hansen, right? Remember "You Will Be Found"? Even when the dark comes crashing through, when you need a friend to carry you, and when you.re broken on the ground, you will be found. I know everything is stacked against us, but I will be that friend that will help you through it." Emma sighed.
After a long moment of silence, Ethan stepped out of the shadows. "So let the sun come streaming in, we'll reach up and rise again, if we only look around, we will be found." Ethan whispered. Emma grinned. "Thanks, Emma. You've been a great... friend. You always know what to say. Emma got a dopey smile. "Well, this is the part where one of the characters gives a pivotal motivational speech to the protagonist, so why wouldn't I? said Emma, staring at the reader of this very page.
"You make no sense."
"I know."
"Well, what do we do now?"
"Well, I was going to tell you that I put a tracking device on Seth's Jeep, but you were too busy moping."
"You... -What?!? Never mind, LET'S GO!!!"
"That's the spirit..."
And so Ethan and Emma raced to her private plane, engines revved and ready to go.
