Alice grunted as she was shoved into one of the many dark, damp, and cold side rooms in Seth's hide out. Hearing the lock on the door click, she struggled against her bounds, but to no avail as they were too tight. She sighed, staring into the empty darkness of the room, wondering how Ethan was doing right now. Last she saw him, he was shot by Seth's weapon and disappearing in a purplish black light. This could mean two things: He could be safe, having slipped away from the blast through the fourth dimension. However, it could also mean the blast had forced him into the fourth dimension, pushing him violently. Since there was no air resistance in the fourth dimension, he could be sent flying into the abyss... forever. And she would be all alone, just like she was now. She shivered at the thought, she couldn't bear to think of the thought being stuck with Seth all her life. She couldn't think of all the terrible things they would do to her, she rather not think about it.
Alice's thoughts drifted to Ethan. She saw him in his mind, a close friend, willing to laugh and joke with her, and she wanted very much to hear his laugh right now. She was scared, and she needed it. She needed him. Just his presence, no matter the situation, good or bad, she would feel safe. Alice thought of his vision, how even if she saw him again, he may never see her again. She mulled over these depressing thoughts, feeling... alone.
No. Ethan would come for her. He always did, no matter what situation she had been in before, he had been there, faithful through the thick and thin. Through bullying, through break ups, when she was sad, angry, happy, he was there. That was when Alice realized how much she loved Ethan. He was the first thought when she woke up, she thought of Ethan every time she made a decision, how it would affect him, she thought of him in hard times, Ethan was the last thought on Alice;s mind when she went to bed. Every second she spent into this darkness made her want Ethan to be there more.
"What's wrong? Are you crying? Look, little Alice is crying!" her bullies said. 10 year old Alice ran away, crying, wishing she wasn't so alone in this school. Wishing she wasn't the new kid everyone had to pick on, and if they didn't, they ignored her. She wanted to be in bed, at home, so no one could see her crying. She slumped behind a tree, wanting to disappear. "Hey, are you okay?" A voice above her asked, soft and cautious. "Go away," Alice said weakly, thinking it was another kid that was going to pick on her. "They pick on you? Don't worry, I'm not here to do that. They pick on me too. My name is Ethan." The voice said, before a boy the voice belonged to sat down beside her. "When I used to feel sad and alone, I would hug my pillow, and it would make me feel better. Do you need a hug?" The boy said, but before Alice could say anything, he wrapped his arms around her, and instantly some of the pain that Alice felt seemed to lighten off from the warm embrace. Ethan let go, and Alice shyly said. "I'm Alice, Could you... um..." "Yeah, sure," Ethan said, rising to his feet, thinking Alice was telling him to go away. "No!" Alice quickly said, "I mean... uh..." "Do you want me to be your friend? Sure," Ethan said, meeting Alice's eyes and smiling. Alice looked up slowly, and smiled too.
"I hate myself! Why can't I just be a little more graceful?" 14 year old Alice asked angrily. Ethan sighed. "Don't worry about them," Alice plopped down on the couch. "Can I have a hug?" Alice asked. Ethan happily complied, scooping up Alice in his arms. Ethan's hugs always made Alice feel better, his tender touch made her relax, and forget about the vicious world for a while. "Why can't I just... I don't know, be better? You know hard I'm trying..." Alice sighed. "I know, I know, but it's okay. No matter what you do, I'll think of you the same, nice and sweet." Alice melted in Ethan's arms, forgetting about the world for a while. "It's okay, I'll always be here for you. Always," Ethan whispered.
Alice stormed into the room, hair wet from the rain, face wet not only rain, but from crying. She had been going after Oliver, her crush, for a while, but he just didn't reciprocate the feelings. She stepped into the room, water dripping from her clothes and hair. Ethan looked up from his spot from the couch, standing up to meet Alice. "Didn't go as planned?" Ethan asked sympathetically. "Yeah," Alice said, voice quivering, tears threatening to spill. Ethan said nothing, taking her in his arms. And again, Alice felt that everything was going to be okay.
Alice snapped away from her flashback and into reality by the door opening and guards rushing in to take defensive positions. Ethan was here for her again.
