Chapter 42.

I woke up to my phone vibrating on the nightstand beside me. Jesus, who in the world could it be? With a groan escaping my mouth, I tried reaching for my phone with closed eyes.

Once I felt my phone on my hands, I grabbed it and held it near my face, gripping it tightly making sure it won’t fall on my face. My eyes slowly opened, squinting because of how bright my phone is. It took a few seconds to have my eyes adjust to the bright screen. A notification that I have received a text message appeared on the screen. I pressed the message icon and saw it’s an unknown number.

“Where the fuck are you? And heard that your mother’s dead.”

The text made me wide awake and made my heart thump faster and harder against my chest. I have a feeling that it’s my father. Oh God. My head jolted to the side of my head, but it was empty. Harry wasn’t there and I can’t hear water in the bathroom.

“Harry?” I asked in a quiet panicked tone.

Silence.

Harry isn’t here, where the hell is he?

I climbed out of bed with my phone on my hands. My phone was about to die because I left my charger back at our house. I looked at the battery percentage; 34%. Crap.

I put on my jeans and my bra and was about to put on my clothes, but the sound of the door opened making me jump and cover my chest with my shirt.

I peeked to the door and was thankful that it was Harry.

“Where did you go?” I said while putting on my shirt.

“I went back to our house and grabbed things that we’ll need. I don’t think it’ll safe for us to stay there anymore. We have to go out of this city, they’ve found us.”

“Who’s ‘they’?” I asked, confused.

“Jay and his people.”

Oh, them. Should I tell him about the text or should I just keep it? Maybe I should tell him, before something bad happens?

“Why are they after us?”

“Because of something I did.”

“What did you do?”

“Something.”

“What is that ‘something’?”

“I’m not telling you, okay?! Just hurry up and we’ll leave this place.” He raised his voice.

I was taken aback by his sudden tone, and looked away so he wouldn’t meet my eyes. I cleared my throat and shuffled to the bathroom to avoid the awkward tension building in the room.

I made sure I did all my business. Harry got a toothbrush from our house, which I could use.

When I was ready, I glanced at the mirror, quickly checking if everything’s neat. I exited the bathroom and saw Harry outside in the balcony. He was standing next to the door with his phone on his hand.

“Let’s go.” Harry muttered and without a glance of me, he went out of the door. I followed behind him and we both got in the car.

“Where are we going?”

“I don’t know.” He sighed.

“I received a text this morning.” I said quietly.

“From?” He asked while his eyes are still focused on the road.
