Hermione looked over at her sleeping husband and daughter curled up in top of him and she couldn't help but smile. She never expected her life to be so perfect. She had an amazing job that she truly believed in. A great group of friends that have stuck with her since school. But what she was most proud of was Ron. She loved him with all of her heart and she was so happy to have a daughter they could share their love with.
Then she really got to thinking, how'd she end up here in the first place? Hermione sat down in the old recliner she got from her parents basement to think. She first met Ron on the Hogwarts express as she helped search for Neville's toad, Trevor. Hermione couldn't help but giggle at the memory. She remembered fixing Harry's glasses with a quick spell she had learned about before boarding the train and she remembered Ron's dirt covered nose. She thought back on how Ron and Harry both thought her to be a mental patient for the first part of the year until they came to save her from a troll. She looked back on her pride for Ron when he used the spell she had tried to teach him to finish off the troll. The trio left that lavatory in great companionship that still existed today. She remembered Ron sacrificing himself in the chess game so that she wouldn't be hurt, even then when their friendship was tedious Ron had cared.
She thought about how they faced Voldemort together in second year and how she had been petrified on her way back from the library with news of the basalisk. She remembered how she ran to Ron and Harry as soon as she was awake again and how they welcomed her with open arms.
She looked back with a laugh on how Crookshanks and Scabbers had nearly ruined their friendship in third year. She remembered grabbing Ron's hand for support when Harry tried to approach Buckbeak.
Hermione thought about how crazy fourth year had been for the trio, what with the Triwizard Tournament and Draco Malfoy's taunts and the boys fighting andRon barely seeing Hermione as a girl and Viktor Krum fawning on Hermione. She laughed at how crazy that year had been.
She thought about all the adventures and misadventures of fifth year and how they all got closer due to Dumbledore's Army.
She remembered Lav Lav and Won Won from sixth year and how much pain it had caused her. She remembered how she'd used Cormac McLaggan to get back at Ron, knowing how much Ron hated the git. She thought about all the slug club meetings and Katie Bell's disaster and the canary attack on Ron after the big win. What a year that had been.
She thought about their search for horcruxes and Ron's jealousy. Hermione remembered the distinct pain she felt when the person she loved most had turned so bitter because of the locket and left her and Harry. She remembered wondering if Ron would ever come back because she really couldn't stand being without him. She remembered punching him when he returned but she loved how it was her voice that had called him back. Hermione remembered the help they had received getting back into Hogwarts before what would be the final battle. She looked back on how shocked she was at Ron's use of parseltongue and the love she felt for him as they kissed. She remembered leaning onto Ron in misery when she thought Harry had died.
Hermione remembered their wedding day and how happy she was to be able to spend the rest of her life as a Weasley with her favorite guy. She recalled all the love that they had shared and the love their friends had given.
She remembered the day she found out she was pregnant with a little girl and how Ron had even cried tears of joy as she told him the news. She remembered how they set up another room in their apartment beside the joke shop so that they would be ready to welcome their sweet baby girl.
Hermione looked back on the day Rose was born and how she squeezed Ron's hand and yelled at him to leave without letting him go as she gave birth to her baby with all their friends and family waiting anxiously on the other side of the door. She remembered hearing Ron announce to Harry and Molly and her mom and Ginny and George and Neville and Hannah and everyone else that Rose was born.
Now she looked back over to the two still sleeping with light snores. She loved these two with everything and with one hand on her stomach where a baby boy waited she smiled at her husband and four year old daughter. From dirt to roses, she loved their story.
